Bishop puts one of the rounds into the trooper through his vest - you are sure that it struck home... he twists under the impact as the other shot whines past his ear - then he is off .. he is close to the edge of the reedbeds and darts into the hotsmoke cover .. you have got a few metres of sludge to wade through before you get out onto hard ground where you can run easily damn Damn! Henri has a poor line of sight too with the hotsmoke drifting between him and the troll it is all that Henri can do to maintain the illusion - Bishop was in a better position to chase the guy..
The sound component is dropped giving you the opportunity to hear a few muted footstamps as the trooper makes that bid for freedom!
You would have to be very lucky or have access to superior resources to be able to pick up on the guy's trail now... He didnt t seem to be badly wounded as he has ignored the offer of surrender
Bishop got the best look at him - but the cam-paint and poor lighting will not register much of the big guy... maybe some intel once the military have cleaned up could come your way.. big maybe as the military arn't reknown for distributing their information without a high court order.
You are able to call in with the bad news - and a couple of minutes later one of the big choppers rumbles overhead - disgorging a few squaddies who immediately check the area - identifying footprints and also collecting the helmet from back in the reeds.
You are able to stand and drip while the hotsmoke disperses revealing an awful lot of low and thick cover which you know does disrupt IR scanners. flamin flooded reedbeds..
the chopper then winds up and down the flooded river a good place to go in order to avoid most types of scanning gear
Bah. Ah well - one got away you have dropped a couple of platoons, a tankette and prevented the attack on the Naval unit.. not at all bad for a late evening's work !
With the unusually understanding attitude from the officer - your teams are eventually united - still under observation 'protective supervision' from the assault troopers - the actually do seem to be scanning the surroundings rather than concentrating on you.
A little information trickles back - the troops will remain while the Naval site is secured - so you can expect to meet units out on patrol. There are known hostiles in the area so any activities have to be monitored as Meg wants to take the opportunity to seek out anthing useful from the recent flooding.

"How very frustrating." Bishop quipped dryly as he calmly removed the silencer from the pistol and holstered it.
He pressed a finger to his throat mic and broadcasted to the others: "Bishop-Four Eyes. Henri and I were just playing hide and seek in the reed beds with one of the troopers. I tagged him twice but he got away none-the-less. He seemed to be better trained than the rest - we may need to consider the possibility that they had outside help. Do tell your new friends not to open fire on us, won't you?"
Bishop managed to contain his frustration at losing the trooper; he wasn't a good loser, but he managed to console himself with having just taken down an entire squad of troopers. Wary of spending too much time patting his own back, he quickly moved on to focus his efforts on cooperating with the new friendlies in the area.

With the team back together, Four-Eyes could see what were Bishop and Henry up to; playing the swampy water, letting one of the troopers escape: but that was nothing compared to the dozen or so Bishop took down. "Damn Bishop, you mean business when you do mean business! Only got 3 down, 2 with a 'nade and one with my machete; I had to try it out anyways; works damn fine.."
He went to Meg afterward "Meg, 'seems there's a few hostiles walking about; maybe we should keep the gathering close by the camp site; if that Spirits in the water thing happened like everyone who's a wizzkid said, maybe get some water to cool down or dunk their piece in it. Maybe there's some residual mana in it with all that magical activity in it."

I laughed when I saw Herri and Bishop. They were soggy and dank. They smelled horrible too but then again swamp water was like that. "You guys look as bad as I feel." Keep in mind I already looked pretty bad but still these two were something else. "Not to rush you FE but don't you think Max should get going on the ultra sound repairs before the local rats start getting brave again?" It wouldn't take much longer now that most of the loud noise had died down. Watching FE talk magic was more painful then nails across a chalk board. I adjusted my hat and had a smoke. Even the small rest while troops weren't pumping me for info wasn't long or confy enough. I felt like I could puke lava.

The rest of the night is noisy - a lot of equipment rolls in via the sky road and sea.. the antnest that the grav troopers tried to take out is repairing itself.. There are small squads in evidence and you have all been requested to remain in the campsite area - not like you really want to go anywhere - apart from the shower block - chow and hit the sack...
Max and No5 take the last of the nightshift and everyone attempts to get a good night's zeds
Well that's it you all recon over brunch next morning .. however there is still a week left an the students have got a lot to collect.. they are organised into teams of five and set out in the canoes which are rescued from down stream..
The hightide had withdrawn leaving that brackish salty smell in the reedbeds - all it needs to do now is get real hot and the place would be unbearable..
there is a lot of unusual flotsam - the hightide has brought a lot in with it which is being merrily collected - there are troopers watching the area with their binox and a couple of rubber boats patrol the banks -
It occurrs to you that the students are pretty oblivious to what has recently happened.. they understand there was some sort of military encounter but their questions are easily brushed aside - Meg smiles and gets them organised into scouring parties..
Youve seen it before - call up a couple of spirit helpers then trot off with crab-nets and collecting jars - blissfull in their ignorance. The jars and items pile up get sorted and catalogued - you mages would note that virtually all of it has a slight aura around it - ideal for research - if you were that inclined...
I would like you all to concider the next few months - you have demonstrated that you are all effective in your fields in unfamiliar territory. We will be leaving for the Seattle site at the end of the week where the students will get down to onsite research - I expect them to complete their second stage in two month - a break into theory - then a further few months mostly onsite.
Seattle urban environment is your territory for the most of you - this is a new venture for me and I expect some interference from outside parties who may want to bite into this business. We have attempted to secure the site as my main concern is kidnap - secondarily the concern is interference from organisations. It will not take long for word to get out that there is a bunch of magelettes working away, where there is magic there is usually money to be made and people will want to muscle in.
A problem I need to think on is whether to align us with a Seattle crew - an organisation capable of influencing others - problem is they would want to take over. I want to remain independent with a rep for scholarly persuits - I dont mind paying out for help and support but I dont want us to get entangled in some syndicate.
Suggestions please.. anyone got comnections that could help? do we need more rigid security like Knight Errant ? Theres not a lot to steal from the place there is little in the way of corporate intelligence as we deal with magics which leaves the personnel as our most vunerable assett.
And what about R&R?
One of the first things to look at when we get back is the security onsite - and a little downtime too along with your bonusses !

"Well, 'might need some time to snoop out the surroundings; get to know who's running the streets and such..I know a gang, but they're too far away to be of any use for the site. Plus I got to meet Illiya for that thing at the mine and our skinned Mage friend..Hmm..'suppose I can ask her if she knows anyone, I know my connections with syndicates are limited to 'you do your thing I do mine let's not talk', I suppose I can ask around about that too."
"Yeah some down time would be a good thing; recharge our batteries and all that; now to find some place where we can get the students to party safely..Hmm..this I might work something out..'know someone who knows a gang who throw wicked parties in an abandoned warehouse. If it's their thing of course."

Well I ran with a Troll Go-gang. They maybe able to relocate if the price is right for them....... What about if you invite the elf slich ...... What's her name ? Illiya to set up shop in the compound. They have resources that they dedicate to research. Isn't that what you are doing by training young spell-worm minds? They help with protection and you help with Field trips into the things that they need to or want to know more about. Plus you maybe able to get a stable of runners to call on to do the work and help to protect the site. A quid pro type deal. Chuck says his bit then goes to grab a few synth beer.

Four-Eyes grinned "holy shit Chuck; this is even better! 'Course if Illiya's crew comes rollin', they will have to play by OUR rules and not the other way around..."

"Not a bad idea chuck." They would make excellent cannon fodder until someone got there. "As for party's, most kids will make a ruckus anywhere. As for extra muscle might i suggest a spirit fund for those of us who can conjure. A good chunk of money i've been making on this job has gone right back into it in one form or another. When it comes right down to it we could use all the spirits we can summon. Even the Shamen need to start binding." It was sad but true. I was technically making less money then almost everyone else. Info wasn't free and neither was elemental materials. "You might also want to consedor contracting out more mages for the purpose of summoning some really heavy hitters we can call on. A force 8 spirit is no joke and will denture only the most fool hardy or well equipped. I've already got a in for that as well. I can even get you a better deal. I've known'em a long time but i'm good with numbers anyway. You can get just about any strength spirit but i think you should go with a large one... or three" I grinned. "Plus he owes me for all the telsma I sent him from the mine site but i'll need a few days to smooth something out. He wasn't happy i didn't accept his offer for backup at the mine site." I cracked my neck. "Anything related to magic he can do. If you want more mages, elementals or even a few adepts i can make it happen. If you want razor's you godda talk to someone else."

Having a go-gang in the small compound would not work I'm sorry to say, they would get pissed off with the local enforcement before too long and we would no doubt come to blows over silly minor things... Illiya too - they have their own way of working - though it couldnt hurt asking either..
There are currently half a dozen autobots on site which are designed to slow down any assault. I would rather trash bots than people. Remember that anything on site will reflect the standard of this academy. I expect the students to be vaguely aware of things going on around them but not have problems or even solutions in their faces.
These students will be going back to their respective universities and corps - and will provide detailed reports of their year's crash training in alchemy. Kid gloves. You have kept them away from all of the incidents we have encounntered, a big congratulations for that. I know it has been different having them as baggage to take care of which has made it difficult for you too.
I am under no illusion that soon if someone wants the inside intel on us then they will be able to gather in a good idea of what sort of security we have and what you are capable of - just by the problems you solve ! - let alone dipping into our business accounts.
We ought to be mostly self-sufficient for magical equipment as part of the student requirement is to manufacture the stuff of alchemy - ending up with creating their own power focii. The next few months will be taken up in them manufacturing those stuffs. I would like the site and our reputation political standing or whatever to be secure in four month before they begin creating their own focii. Reason being there will be twelve sets of power focii with a street value of quarter of a mill each. That will be a tempting target.
The spirit summoning is a good idea - you mages do need some clout to call on once in a while.. If Shade Micro or Henri could set up some summoning sites - I should be able to requisition enough materials to support a few heavy summonings... I am a shaman but understand some of the dangers involved in elemental summonings - and the cost.
You couldn't do it on our site as the interior is a protected lodge, and the outside id mostly plant racking.. you'll need to set the sites up yourselves - give us two weeks and there ought to be alll the material requirements available. It would be a good experience for the students to see what measures and precautions you are going to take for a bigger summoning.. I believe AP rounds could be useful in case of rebellion.
Meg gives you a brief explaination and some ideas to work on for the next few weeks - cost time place and the rest ought to be sorted out.. as well as bringing in some new blood..

Some yen for the month's work is due to you all - plus we shall sort out a bonus as well for the military gratitude. You need to decide on recognition and handshakes... or to drop out of sight. Shade an F-E have already made brief verbal reports - if you want to take it further you would be properly debriefed by the military - in a nice way of course...
on top of that is the 8 karma each for tangling with the paramilitaries. You will have time to spend it over the next few weeks while you settle into deciding on the best way to protect the site and personnel working there.

((OK i'll add the 8 karma but i don't remember how much money we make. It's been a while. I'll also opt for the handshaking and ass kissing. I'm defently hoping for some mill spec armor... lol hey a guy can dream can't he?))

((2500/week, 10k/month....yeah Four-Eyes will got the official way and have a formal debrief..he is representing the Cascades Rangers at any rate...and 'can always work toward new contacts..if not in the military, then with Milie and Giles))
Meg explained what she was aiming for "Yeah, I might be able to find some newcommers, not really Mages, more of the physical side of things. I think a rigger would be good, get some drones as back up, or maybe someone, or anyone good wiht close combat in case the studetns gets out to relax and get snatched; we can't really pull out our guns everywehre now."
