As usual I post all kinds of Drek out here. Recently the Retro's had a discussion and fatman did his usual research. You might be interested in how it came out. So I decided to open this up.
Fact or Fiction?
Recently, Sally Field won an Emmy and said some pretty DUMB things. This was one such comment. “At the heart of [her character] Nora Walker, she is a mother,” Field said. “May they be seen, may their work be valued and raised, and to especially the mothers who stand with an open heart and wait – wait for their children to come home for from danger, from harm’s way and from war. I’m not finished. I have to finish talking … if the mothers ruled the world there would be no goddamn wars in the first place.”
I remember the first time I encountered this sort of opinion - that if women were in charge, humanity would live in peace. I was 11 or 12 years old and read it in a book, and I actually laughed out loud. I remember thinking; this fool has obviously never met any females. There’s a whole subclass of idiots out there of both sexes that I wouldn’t want to pick up my trash, never mind running the world. Let’s face it; stupidity and violence are not limited to one gender.
Neither do we need any evidence that a Hollywood nitwit would say something stupid at an awards ceremony. I mean, that’s why they have awards ceremonies, right? I suppose it’s a good reason why we should televise them. I thought an after-effect of 9/11 would be less of a focus on actors/celebrities (and the literally dozens of award ceremonies and the lunatic stories that surround their lives and the pimp media that cater to them), but I was wrong. Celebrity-worship seems stronger than ever.
On how many video web sites have you seen recent films of girls (mostly teens) having cat fights? Search Google. I don’t have to make this up. It shows how far out of it some people really are holding onto half baked notions and concepts that have never shown a shred of proof! They say if women ran the world we would have no war. Let’s say, for the sake of argument that they are technically correct, maybe we would have no war but we sure as heck wouldn’t have a moment’s peace either.
If anyone has observed girls most of their nastier stuff starts in about fourth grade, when girls start engaging in what can only be called a war of attrition via emotional abuse. They form evil little cliques and set about utterly destroying each other’s self-esteem and pride. Then you move on to the nightmare called junior high school, where the females carefully hone their craft and the sabotage is raised to a whole new level of hate under the subtle campaign of ‘Sneaky and Manipulative’. At least when boys pick on you, it’s all pretty much out in the open. Girls? Oh no. They use subterfuge and reconnaissance. Girls will pretend to be your best friend just to discover your weaknesses, which they’ll then employ to bring you down. But that’s nothing. Wait until high school, when the competition for boys gets serious and the rumor-mongering takes on apocalyptic proportions. This is when the girls start calling each other sluts just because they like the same guys. Sugar and spice, my fat ass.
It’s absurd to think that putting women in control of the world would make any difference; women have just as much hate, spite, and pure evil in them as men do. They simply express it differently most of the time, but not always. There have been times when mothers held vast power, and did they bring peace to all lands? Ask Cleopatra.
Anyway, I know I’m opening up a big nasty can of political incorrectness, but what bugs me the most about the idea that “there wouldn’t be any goddamn wars in the first place” if mothers were in charge is that it ignores the fact that there probably wouldn’t be any technology, either. Or modern medicine or modern cities or most all of the drek we take for granted, 99.9% of which was invented, built, and maintained by men.
I wonder if people like Sally Field would have mothers “in charge” but still let the men do all the dirty hard work. Not that we’d still be living in caves necessarily but really, it deserves some thought. The exact same testosterone-fueled drive that makes men fight wars also makes them build bridges, tall buildings and computers. Made them hunt animals to feed the tribe, made them relentlessly experiment with domestication of animals and crops, made them invent metallurgy, made them invent the wheel. There is no doubt that women are intellectually capable of all of these things, but the fact is that they did not do them on any kind of meaningful scale throughout all of human history.
Nor would it be different if “mothers” were suddenly put in charge. I feel strong resentment to that claim that just because I’m a man I’m responsible for everything bad in the world. I’d really like to know just what makes Sally Field think women love their children more than men. Human nature is what it is, and we will fight over everything until we go extinct. Even if the best mother EVER was Queen of the Planet, someone somewhere would still need to have their ass kicked, and she’d have to send somebody’s child to do it.
Truth be told, the great majority of domestic violence cases perpetrated against children are by their mothers or female caretakers. We focus on the risks to children outside of their home, or those perpetrated by their fathers or male relatives, but those numbers pale next to those of women who endanger abuse or kill their children. While some of that figure deals with crimes of proximity and opportunity), it also shows that women are not inherently peaceful, uniformly loving, or morally superior to men.
I think I’ll pull out what seems to be this UNRELATED topic that never seems to be linked in all this. In Eastern Europe, there are more abortions than live births: 105 abortions for every 100 live births, the research found. In Western Europe, there are 23 abortions for every 100 live births. In North America, there are 33 abortions for every 100 live births, while in Africa, where abortion is illegal, as in most countries; there are 17 abortions for every 100 live births. Women are just as likely to get an abortion in countries where it is outlawed as they are in countries where it is legal, according to research published Friday. What the paper doesn’t say is how many of those woman are REPEATERS? It certainly would skew the facts wouldn’t it? The idea is though that abortion is on the fast track of killing more children than we ever lost in any war! So much for the gentler, kinder gender. This is younger children than any we have sent off to war. Who are the REAL baby killers here?
Need further proof? These are just a few more recent and noteworthy incidents in the news: I counted fifteen in the past week alone, but here are just a few to make the point.
The mother of a two-year-old Wisconsin boy shared a marijuana blunt with her child as friends laughed, filmed the child smoking, and asked, “Hey buddy, are you stoned?” Krystle Leigh Weber, 20, was charged yesterday along with two male friends with pot possession and contributing to the delinquency of a minor (Weber was also hit with a child neglect rap, also a misdemeanor). According to a Circuit Court complaint, after a confidential source told police about the smoking incident, cops seized a cell phone from defendant Sean Held, 19, and discovered three videos of the August incident. On the clips, the boy is seen holding and apparently puffing on a blunt, and “staggering around a bedroom in what appears to be a confused and altered state.”
A mom in Kent County is headed to court after police say she took a bite out of a school security guard. Thirty-three-year-old Mary Lee Brown could face aggravated assault charges stemming from a fight at Ottawa Hills High School. Officers say she went there around 11:15 Tuesday morning after getting a call about a fight her daughter had been in. Ottawa Hills School officials say when she got there Brown started fighting with a security officer, biting him on the arms and face. A slew of kids were standing around watching the fight, some even jumped in.
A Pinellas Park mother remained in jail Thursday afternoon on $5,000 bond after police said she held her 5-year-old son outside of an SUV because he was causing a disturbance. The incident began just before midnight Wednesday on 43rd Street North in Pinellas Park and ended with the arrest of 27-year-old Christina Adams. Witnesses said they watched in shock as Adams at some points forced the child to run beside the car to keep up. “To hang a child out of a moving vehicle like that is absurd,” witness Victor Concepcion said. “Just holding the baby out of the window and I was like ‘Oh no … no … no. So I walked out to the end of the street. They stopped the truck. She sets the kid down and grabs the kid’s hand. They start driving away again and the kid’s running, trying to keep up with the vehicle.”
So given this information from your friendly local Fatman, Britney Spears for President, anyone?
