Actually, this is a GREAT spot for talking bout whats going on in the game. I was thinking on about what Mr. Gobwit was thinking regarding my invitation to lurkers, other players, and spectators and I guess I have to grudgingly give them the choice to participate or not. Though it also makes me sad, since we all obviously like the game and I think we are making excellent inroads into making the game more playable online, or in a Play-by-post setting, which was one of the objectives set out way at the beginning.
I think that I am going to make my posts more in the open as a result of recent discussions, as a demonstration. Not everything that I'm doing is as it appears to be, though I've been deliberately fostering a certain perception...I was thinking that perhaps I could, by opening up MY discourse with various people, show a couple things. The first would be that in Shadowrun, as in life, not much is as it appears to be. The example with the "cops" picking up Widow and Quick during the firefight, was a good example.
The second thing, at least from my perspective, and I KEEP running across this in the games I've been playing here and elsewhere, is that there is a whole world out there, and there are ALWAYS things going on. I myself, as HeadCrack, have at least five things going on at any one time. It's partly why I'm often so slow to post stuff. I'm talking to this person or that, IC or OOC, gathering information, PMing, reading up on rules and more often descriptions, and reacting to things that are going on, or things that I've set in motion...It'd probably be more beneficial for onlookers if they saw what those things were. Then, as spectators they couldn't necessarily have to question Pelch, about what I, as HeadCrack am doing...
Won't be as suspenseful, I guess, but it'll make more sense on a local level for everyone else.
The last thing, and this is related to the last point, is that I've found playing and GMing, is that players both do too much and not enough research at the same time. As a GM, I find the players CONSTANTLY asking the Johnson a ton of questions and this is partially fostered by the literature and 'shadowy' nature of the game, wherein the Johnson will "ALWAYS" screw you over if he gets a chance.
As a player and GM, I constantly find unresolved threads that haven't been explored, or even considered, because the players haven't done any OTHER research or follow-up to information they already have.
Most days I'm ill equipped to follow up on that kind of opportunities in game, because, I'm a dedicated vehicle rigger instead of an investigator, I'm a meta chemical scientist instead of a ganger, etc. etc. This time, I thought I'd tap into that niche and play someone both good at investigating and slightly combat oriented. Hence my choice as HeadCrack the Combat Decker.
True, he's not the best "investigative" character I could have made, but he is Decent at surfing the biggest and yet under-utilized resource in the game. The Matrix. I'm having a lot of fun, following up on unfinished threads. Mr. Gobwit, hats off to you for your continued good work and letting us all go where we will.
Oh yah, SEASON'S GREETINGS to everyone as well...
