lovely stuff - Thanks M8 !
what about IR - are ghouls colder and therefore find it easier to hide from infra red.. an idea I like.
They are tremendously fast and will be on top of you real quick - I am tempted to say they all have an innate ability to hide - they like to have a wall next to them - or be inside a burrow so they gravitate to being out of plain sight.
Strong enough to burrow through deep earth and scratch crete would put their claws at around 'wolver' damage - to shred unarmoured folk.
they would see quite clearly in the astral in the depths of mother earth
Whats the film with Will Smith as the survivor... that kind of ghoul.. but they havnt yet become a virulent plague.
what with the plagues and massed viral infections - where are all of the humans and metas coming from? ease of medical care - no housing shortage cheap power and food - it is easy to 'survive'. not have a good life but everyone can survive.
plague victims dont all die - the infected could be dissappeared by governments - if they can be caught...
some ghouls retain their sanity and a semblance of normality too. A cybered-up ghoul character could be realy really nasty... so fast!

I disagree with the IR thing because ghouls have all the same body processes as humans and if their constantly fighting to regenerate I would dare say they show up better on IR. My thought being the extra process creates more heat.
Ghouls are sneaky bastards so your average ghoul has:
Stealth/Hide 2/4 or 3/4 depending on your needed threat factor.
An older ghoul or one simply with a lot of hunting time could even get as high as 5/7+ These are your ultimate hunters and would have knowledge skills to reflect that.
Stealth Kn. 4 Outdoors kn 5 and even Small Unit Tactics 3+
That's a dangerous ghoul. For even MORE danger Seattle Kn/Hunting Grounds 4/6 Psychology/Prey 2/3
Claws:
Str M is the damage code for Melee, ghouls don't need any help in this area to offset the fact that they will infect you if you get nailed. Outside of combat they're basically tallions and while they could dig though earth that should be about the existent of it as well as dull their claws making useless until they gt a chance to regrow.

I want to point out ghouls are living creatures, not undead monsters.
Also, a good way to tell where ghouls have been would be to find scat. (poop)

Yes - I am Legend.. akin to the feral ghouls..
Yes you have to be correct on the IR thing - they will burn up and consume and still pump out heat.
they are not magically sustained monsters such as zombies.. they are living creatures and much maligned just because they cannot create their own cellular tissues and have to replenish with someone else's. They do munch on rodents to keep themselves 'ticking over' but this will not sustain them over time and their muscles atrophy.

I think anything other then metahuman meat would only be a stop gap and the freshness of meat would have a lot to do with how much nourishment they get from it. Smart ghouls will have a lair with electricity and freezers. Keep in mind even the barrens have wires running though them that are still active. Or if your like Shade's contact SafeCracker, you'll be using solar panels with backup batteries.

For the record, Henri has no experience with ghouls. Apologies from wombat & me for not posting for a while, I've had problems with a virus trashing my o/s & he's moved house and is still waiting for via cable guy to hook him up.

More thoughts on ghoul claws:
While claws themselves are straight foreword and don't nee to be made any tougher I've thinking about the condign of the claws themselves. A feral wont be keeping upkeep in his claws which will make them jagged and he may be missing one of two (although i think they regrow pretty fast) As where a smart ghoul will maintain his claws.
Here's some food for thought.
Sharp: A smart ghoul will maintain his claws and work to keep them sharper then normal. unarmed +1to 2
Jagged: A feral ghoul will have cracked and chipped claws, meaning they will rip and shred as opposed to cutting. Armor piercing 1-2
Crit fail: A ghoul can easily rip or brake it's claws off giving it a few negatives. 1-3
Teeth: since they eat dead thing their teeth are of course sharp, maybe even jagged depending on they ghoul. A crit fail could mean it brakes several of it's teeth leaving it's bite useless for a small time.
After doing some research I haven't the rate as which claws regrow. I would say they regrow at a accelerated rate but in "mere moments" perhaps 24 hrs or so, along with their teeth but i've seen nothing to suggest their teeth regrow. In fact some ghouls under go plastic surgery to attempt to look normal.
I've also found that infection isn't inmate or always passable. Sometimes ppl only become carries without turning into one and other times they fight it off completely, only being ill for about ten days or so.
Also note that they only eat 1% of their body weight each week to survive, so in wolflet land they might need to eat 2-5 to keep their cyberware working or perhaps keep themselves in tip top shape or maintain higher brain functions.

1% per week indicated that they will wither and die after two years without human - or meta DNA replenishment...
they munch on most other critters usually rats and other plentiful vermin to keep up the carbs.
the 'human' ghouls you have all glimpsed or encountered will have been in good shape physically - indicating they are replenishing their deteriorating DNA with juicy bits from somewhere. whole blood or parts stolen from hospital?
the ferals have been in different stages ranging from sleek and fattened through to emaciated and sinewy - but near-mindless.
Theories and experimentation results indicate that a thinking ghoul will 'lose it' after a year or so of not maintaining the correct diet. Maybe the brain shuts down certain higher level functions in order to preserve the core being when there is not enough DNA to go around.. leaving the survival instincts.
So why dont they go crazy and rush out into populated areas and just slash innocent bystanders in order to top up on that essential DNA?
many have enhanced senses so the noisy disinfected light upper world may be too scary for them. They are good hunters but may not have the bloodlust to venture out to kill preferring to eat carrion.
feral ghouls will attack humans when in their own underground territory but rarely outside.

Or maybe they do and no one catches it. People simply go missing all the time in a large city. Perhaps the thinking ghouls snatch people from the more populated areas leaving the barrens for the feral s.

Ally's:
You know most mages create their own allies from the energy's of the astral, which can be useful in that spirits tend to be more obedient and grow over time but something popped into my head a while back and I've been wondering ever since.
Would it be possible to gain a ally who already exists and what would the upshot be?
Would summoning cost less? Could you summon a ally with skills you yourself don't posses?
The downside being they are their own beings and may not want to do what you tell them.... you may not be able to give orders at all... simply put they aren't required to follow your orders.

GHOULS
missing people - the authorities dont give a rats ass for the SINless so any metas or vagrants disposessed and refugees go uncounted apart from unoficial head counts when some city beurocrat wants to whip up trouble with how the city is being leeched by these nogoodniks.
the viral plagues remove a lot of people too - stuff goes missing or is data hacked and adjusted - clerical errors by pissed off clerks ( see the film 'Brazil' !)
so there are a lot of people down on their luck and out of sight for whatever reason - a few missing here and there - or a downtown gang fight cleaned up in the wee small hours... the city doesnt miss the tens of thousands who are just not on their books. nor would scavengers
