That 'McCauley' had been abe to adjust the channels just every so often, to real things, an insight into the other world, Seattle news instead of the crappy piped-in reruns. Clandestine - he said candlestein, like a sewn-up monster candle, as a joke.
He stops chewing over the porridge, sitting quietly upright, attentive. Stopping instead of going with the flow.
Sassenfrassenrickrastedly watchthemonitor
Click.. Baywatch again, good grief.
McCauley switches over before the nurse arrives with the next installment of good-for-you's - poppers and pudding, a warm combination for the rest of the day.
'i would like to see doctor stanger'. flows from his lips.
pharmacuticles to quieten the brain, quieten the emotions , quieten the wide eyes, the nightmares, shakes, blood, all wash away in a few moments of tranquilitty. Nice word tranquility - calm before knowing.
An enlightenment of clear cold realness washes over the spirit. The outside parts that Freddy had clung onto slipped onto the floor like dust bunnies, to be swept up by the other sad souls trying to escape into their own deeper fuzzier blanket.
'Nurse I wish to see Doctor Stanger as soon as he is available, I shall be on the outside terrace'

After the paperwork had been completed, his dear wife collected him from the bide-a-wee resthome, and back home to the family.. A fortnight spent recovering was not too high a price - though he did feel different - more settled more in touch with his core. Snake had called to him as well, allowing the physical scarring to heal, winding her coils around teaching .. He had left an old piece of himself behind, removed the mental baggage, snake was clever and knowing, now he was able to return to the nest, then to look into the dark places, with a guide this time. Meg's eyes rounded - She's beautiful, a little girl, oh you are going to be busy - show the children theyll be so thrilled Ferdilance..

He made a few fone calls not expecting any answers- but you never know... the Growder case had been a high payer - nearly got Fiver killed. Would everyone else vanish...
Freddy rang his contact Drell the laywer to find out the gossip and hard facts on Feinfield - a guy like that doesn't just drop out of sight - unless he wants to, or he is dropped out of sight! did that make the new owner of the rising corp - surely not Mom Strait ! Could Growder have been right and the Straits were the real crooks!
The numbers he had collected - Pops, Fiver, Nerlata Hollowgoat - and the Doc who had treated Fiver, all needed a call - just to see what ideas people had - strength in (limited ) numbers was always useful. Freddy diddnt expect a result from these numbers, but...
If all else failed then there was the Growders number itself - but that could wait until there was more information.
Grubbing around for information was meat and drink to Snake - a good way of repaying Her for his new ally 'Snig'

It may take a while for the messages to get back to him - a casual Hi Fred here, like to talk- give me a call may not even interest the others, but Derll the laywer should, when he had some free time.
Freddy took the kids off fishing on the boat with his mum - just for a turn around the sound, the excuse to blow away the fug from the last few weeks, have a gas with his mum and to see what the kids caught - and threw back - a nce afternoon out. The kids had played with Snig below decks showing her all manner of kid's stuff till the spirit got tired.. Mum just laughed at their stories, but they knew I knew and laughed too.
Pop off a few calls to his other contacts as well, find out whats the buzz in Aztechnology and Renraku, whats on the streets through Sammy - Doms contact. See if theres biz for pay..
Later on when the kids were tucked in he would share a crate with the guys from the nearby shops run by Bill about a magbuster.. if he knew someone who had one.. or a top-notch sequencer. Heafty stuff, but it was worth tracing down. The guys knew Freddy's night job was to liberate articles that wanted their freedom, he'd passed enough gear through their hands.
A day spent reaching out with those feelers, testing the water, what was up and coming? Who had what worth stealing, no not stealing, - redistributing a much more pleasing sentiment.
He would give Feinfelds number a call tomorrow - after finding out who were the remaining directors and who now owned the company.. His socialite contact Miss Daisy could probably introduce him to the richest widow in town... specially as he was working for Growder earlier on..

A search of the matrix for any recent trid infomation on how many of the original directors are still alive, a browse of the stocks market on Growder. What is happening with the company - There will be a wealth of information available, and an evening jacked in to sift it through with the chip 5 to guide him. After he's gathered enough background, he may pay Mrs Strait's house a visit, in the astral - once that lead is cleared, Mr Feinfeld needs a call
an outside hit to remove the head honchos then move in and clean up..?

It has been two days since Growder was reported dead, evening of the second day Freddy decides to go hunting -or rather, looking under rocks - it is what Snake followers do well.
They were hired on by Growder to rub out Strait and his Ma, and being nosey, they dug a little to clear their conciences. Just enough to expose Growders daughter - Strait's wife as being linked to the underworld - through the entertainments biz. She was a greedy manipulative gal, who had probably hospitalised Strait - instead of killing him. That was just before he had a few bright ideas and made a pile - so murder became a little risky - Freddy reconed that she made her peace with him as he unexpectedly turned out to be a front runner. Growder meanwhile threw a spanner in the works by declaring in the event of his death that the directorswould inherit the blossoming Growder enterprise, so a few directors began to dissappear - Feinfeld the laywer being a powerful man implicated himself by getting the team to deliver a poisoned parcel to another director. Not that the team would squeal - but he did have to do a run off to Sino-California to pick up the dust accompanied by their driver.. indicating a deal with some Japanese enterprise.. Alll supposition so far.. Now Growder, his mafia-connected daughter and Strait all pop their clogs, clearing the way for the directors - depending upon who is left to take executive control of the company. So Freddy needs to find which directors are still alive, if any..
And Mrs Strait, - who may even have a holding interest in the company.
Now Growder wanted to remove the Straits - albe it reluctantly - so could it be that Ma Strait had flipped the tables and fallen into bed with Fienfield - being able to pull together the two companies..
Freddy had to find out. Which meant paying an astral visit to her mansion house to see who was around, then maybe paying them a physical visit later on to relieve them of incriminating evidence - which could be returned for a price.
Ma Strait lived up in the plush hills - the area had reasonable security that Freddy would test tonight.
Firstly an astral scout of the area from above - just to check that no heavy anti-magical security had been put in place. The area was clear - though one of the mansions nearby caught his eye... leave it for another day... The mansion itself had no Knight Errant Bargheasts wandering the grounds, no stupid watcher spirits either - the place was open for him to wander..
Outside pool sliding doors great view, a difficult person to protect. From what they had found out she liked her booze and enjoyed floating in the pool - very difficult to protect from a hit of any sort.. The mansion was closed up. Doors locked up, no doubt the Star had given her advice. Below stairs, Freddy recognised the nice security system - a 780 semi AI - but built for a live-in house not a security centre, lots of small holes to slide in through when he came back to burgle the place. Ma Strait would be recognised by the system so she diddnt set it off when guzzling gin at three in the morning... or decided to drive out and stock up on milk and chips from the mall. Strait would have bought this in to be tailored to his Ma's quirky lifestyle. The system would stop most attempts to break in and bring a fast response team in - no doubt. The AI would be introduced to, and then recognise other party-goers. Nice thing about this 780 was you could just tell it to ignore certain persons and not record - it diddnt have to ID them so no records of who they were.
Once the tour of the mansion had been completed to determine where everyone - anyone was, he could come back and lift what he wanted - using a series of changes that would get him into the building - turn the security to his advantage - then browse at his leisure.
It all depended on who was there....

The Coffee Palace was starting to empty itself, lunch hour was ending, the suits were going back into their nice protected enclave. A phantom Lone Star Americar parked itself out front, a man around 40 of age, with longcoat, suit and fedora hat got out, leaving the woman behind the wheel alone to keep the fort.
He entered the Coffee Palace, giving a greeting nod of the head to the owner behind the counter, quickly making his way to a booth in the back, occupied by a equally aged man, dressed in suit and trenchcoat.
"Hey Rob, how are things?" The new arrival sat down inside the booth, his back facing the entrance.
"Only got 2 out of 4..10 years, same numbers, only manage to won 50 Nuyen..I should quit...How about you Vince?" Robert put down his copy of the Seattle Herald and took a lip of his steaming hot coffee.
"Same as always...the Captain gave me some rookie woman as a partner, got 2 PhD but can't interrogate a suspect..almost manage to drek the 48th avenue murder."
"All book knowledge, no practice, this is what you get..It was a passionate crime right?"
"You know it, ex-husband."
"Though so..So, any news about Ben?"
"Nah..got 5 orks at the morgue, just got back from there..none of them was him..guess it's good news.."
"Yeah..guess it's back to scouting the alleys and abandoned buildings..checking with your cousin too."
"You know he won't pull that drek, 'specially after you helped him..he treats you like familly..anyway got to go. paperwork for the 48th Avenue case."
"Ok, Thanks for everything Vince"
Vince stood up and got back to the parked Americar outside, leaving Robert alone in the now deserted cafe. His son was still missing, but the call of the job came storming in again. The Gowder case didn't ended up like it was supposed too..and three bodies, some were even consider suspects in the whole affair. Flipping on his pock-sec, he found the LTG number who called him a few days ago regarding that case. Dialing the number with his head telephone, he took a lip of his coffee, waiting for Freddy to pick up the dial.
"Back to the grind.."

Hi Pops! we should meet and talk over recent jobs and future prospects.. where are you - I can be there twenty
Freddy soon enters the caf beanie hat and bright red jacket.. collects a coffee small cup triple hit and slides into the booth
They begin to jaw over recent facts... Growder and sibling's deaths dissappearance of the main players and a possibility of being dragged back into it unprepared, or going back with eyes wide open..
I've already called a few people to find out who is still left alive, and who stands to inherit the controling interests in both corporations.. we shouldnt get dragged in unless Feinfeld wants us back - or dead, but it is better to be well prepared.. any ideas?

"Well, from what I managed to looked back at what the media told, One of Gowder's goon is missing...probably ran off with Feinfield. As for Strait, I clearly remembered that 2 ex-cons were his bodyguards, no news about them..chances are they might have done it and simply ran off into the wild..."
Robert took a big slip of his coffee, the ideas seemed to ponder inside his old head.
"Say Freddy..you checked on Strait's mom? After loosing a son and a daughter-in-law, she must be heart-broken..Maybe a visit seems in order. She appears to be the only one who can not only take Strait's corp, but maybe cut a deal to get Growder's. Keeping it all in the family..."

s'right - I expect that she would stand to get the lot, in which case she may want to talk to people who Growder hired in.. like Fienfield and the bodyguard, who have dissappeared... about the death of her boy. She will soon have, if she doesnt already, a bathfull of cred to throw at people to ensure her safety - and to trace any hired hands who may know something. Like us... ...I may just keep my head down out of sight for a while could be I worry too much..

"Well Freddy, You got that magic thing workin' for you, I got guns and experience in protection and security. Here's what I think are our options: One-get hired by Old lady Strait to protect her..we'll get first hand Intel on how the corp handling is going..maybe get ourselves a bit of the pie before all is done." Robert did a move with his hand, seemingly at no one. Seconds later the Coffee Palace owner came at the table, a cup of hot coffee in his hand. "Thanks." "My pleasure, det..erh..sir." Pops let out a cold strong stare at the owner before he returned to normal, talking like nothing happened.
"Where was I? Oh yes...Two-Get hired to track down Gowder's hired hands: the lawyer, the ex-cons bodyguards, maybe we'll even get some more names, they were 2 other living member of Gowder's corp board, maybe search in their history. Third-We stick to the night. We snoop around the place, maybe dress up as workers to get some recon, then rob the place for sensitive material, get what we can from that, maybe get some creds on the side..heh..that'll be nice.."
He took a nice long slip of his new cup 'o (real) coffee, taking his time to savour it fully.

Solid options, but why hire us when they can pull in teams of professionals.. to clean up the crappy dangerous jobs. Yep you're right about the options - but would have to be careful about how and who we introduce ourselves to, we could be handing ourselves over to the ones who set it all in motion...

Robert listens and though about Freddy's view on the situation. He came late: Nerlata had lost her fixer, and Fiver was already sick from that bio-poison. He did not meet Growder and his lawyer face-to-face, the chances of him getting squeezed in were small, but Freddy was in there from day 1: More to loose.
"Yeah, I get it, we're not in a position to run around the big players...but, maybe by knowing what move they must do, we might be able to find an opening...Corporatioins changing owners must be full of red tape, law-wise...and I know somebody who can help us get the law much more clearer for us, she's young, but she knows her stuff, not to mention access to a rather big pile of documents."

I can probably dig for info on what stage both Growder's and Strait's companies are at... I expect Ma Strait to inherit... But there will be some fighting over the outcome - the big boys wont want another bigger player getting involved - I have some corp contacts I could tap for info on that..
It'd be useful to know how the investigation has gone - though anything official will be buried...
And Ma Straits mansion should be checked out before the new security systems can be put in place.. It'll take a few days to install new gear, so her personal security should have been upped to compensate..
You recon there could be any mileage in telling Ma Strait that we were employed by Feinfield to deliver the parcels..oh and remove her? Yeah, maybe not..
Feinfield isnt able to dissappear for good, he's too well known and influential to drop out of sight for a long time, he should surface in a while, or he's dead. My suspicion is on him killing off the family, but he'd know that the board members would gain controlling interests.. and we know he was rubbing them out - means that someone had to then get rid of him as well.... only if that happened would Ma inherit. Could be some incriminating evidence at the mansion..but it would be stored away deep..
So are there any board members left alive? Whats the reward on information about the case? - zip I suspect, unless it is influencial in identifying the murderer And finally whats the best way to get into Ma Straits mansion - if we need to we will have to move fast ! - but the place will be crawling with security which could be good
