"It gonna be fine I will talk to the guards inside and let them know I brought my own guy to look over the trucks, which by the way are those 3 over there with the Dewey, Cheatham & Howe logo If you are approached play it cool and tell them what you are here for, call the office, you will wait and it should be fine just don't provoke an incident to get shot . With that said Quick heads into the building to make sure the drivers are properly motivated and ready to drive. Wheels walks to the rear of his car and pops the trunk revealing a scattering of tool boxes and carry-all bags. Picking thru several, Bobby selects an assortment of tools from his vehicle tool kit, and puts them into a tool belt which he slings around his waist. Then scooping up his vehicle control deck, he strides purposefully towards the trucks. The three trucks were parked in a row, backed up to overhead loading doors along the pier about 30 feet from where Wheels and Quicksilver parked. Bobby is standing in front of the first truck, looking up at the engine cowling hooks when a young oriental sticks his mug out from between the 2nd and 3rd truck. He appears to be slightly surprised to see the dwarf standing there, which was odd since Wheels made absolutely no effort to be the least bit stealthy. "Oi, you. Stop what you are doing. Who are you? What are you doing here? Restricted area! You no see sign?" His english is not the best, but Bobby gets the picture. Bobby has over the years come to realize that he, under certain conditions tends to act somewhat impulsively. The feeling usually comes upon him when he doesn't really want it too, and the bubbling, surging, "I just had a brilliant idea", broiling in his stomach told him now that he was going to do something... "Oi, you, yourself. Come over here and help me with this cowling. Can't you see I am a little on the short side here?" With a wave, Wheels moves to the left of the truck to grab the fender as if to swing the cowling forward. He grabs the fender with both hands and looks over his right shoulder at the young Yakuza tough. The tough looks confused, and takes two steps forward before he remembers that he is supposed to be doing security. "You. Stop. Move away." The young man slides the SMG forward on its sling to cover Bobby with it one handed, while his left hand moves to his belt to retrieve a transceiver. Speaking rapidly into the microphone, the youth waves Wheels away from the truck with the gun. "Yup, thats right chummer, you radio to check me out. I am with Quicksilver, and he wants me to check out these trucks. Make sure they haven't been tampered with..." Bobby slowly moves back from the truck, hands held at shoulder height, (for a dwarf that is...)... The yakuza soldier pauses as he listens to Bobby, then resumes speaking rapidly into the mike. Bobby doesn't really understand what he's speaking but if the dwarf had to make a guess, he'd have said Japanese. The whole two plus two thing...Yakuza guards...plus a language that he speaks like a native... A ternse reply comes from the transceiver and the soldier responds with a sharp "Hi.." before he reattaches the radio to his belt. Slinging the SMG to rest position again, he speaks to Bobby again. "Sowwy, so sowwy. Me not know you. Me shoot omaes me not know...So sowwy..." The little fragger actually bowed to Bobby. Wheels must have had a strange look on his face because the young man stepped forward quickly to undo one of the fasteners on the hood of the truck. "I he'p you. I do good job for you..." Bobby shakes his head in wonderment as he steps forward to climb onto the front bumper so as to reach the fastener on his side. With a grunt, Bobby jumps backward off the bumper, pulling on the hood, trying to use his body weight to counter balance the hoods natural design. With the added body weight of the young man who leaps to help Bobby, the hood is shunted forwards and up away from the motor. Bobby climbs up the front tire and nestles himself down at the front of the motor and begins to examine the motor in detail. A steady stream of descriptive terminology can be heard for several feet as Wheels goes into great discriptive detail for his somewhat reluctant audience. The poor soldier can't understand most of what Bobby is saying but is interested in what the diminuative metahuman is doing. The one sided exchange lasts for several minutes as Bobby moves over, under and around the engine compartment, checking things like fluid levels, break and tire wear, belt tightness, timing alignment, sparkplugs, etc. etc. It takes about 12 minutes before the young soldier gives up and finally goes back to doing whatever it is that he was doing before, guarding presumably, before Bobby gets down to the real business. Drek, Quick didn't give me a time frame and that drekhead was standing, looking over my shoulder for a good 15 minutes or so...Drek, drek, drek...Should I just put it on here in case I don't get a chance on the other ones? Drek!!Bobby pushes shut the oversized engine cowling and it falls back into place with a crash. The young yakuza comes running from around back of the third truck looking startled. Bobby pantomimes pushing the hood back into place, and the two of them start grinning. The japanese youth gives Bobby a thumbs up and goes back around the corner. Sighing lightly, Bobby climbs under the middle of the truck and reaches up high up above and behind the fuel tank. Clamping the tracking bug on to the back of the metallic fuel tank is a good maneuver... he thinks to himself, No on ever looks on top of the fuel tank. This particular fuel tank was molded to fit close to the truck frame and up under the bed of the enclosed box which was the cargo area... Worming his way further back under the truck, Wheels continues to examine the undercarriage, linkages, fluid lines, air bags and tires. He examines the frame for cracks and other irregularities... Bobby continues on in this vein for the next hour or so, scurrying over, under and around each of the trucks in succession until at long last, Quicksilver comes out of the warehouse followed by three more individuals. The three of them make their way over towards the trucks and wait patiently until Bobby finishes up the last part of his inspection of the rear end of the third truck...

OOC: Pelch, "Well done Boombaby. Nice detail and you moved that part of the story along well. I think Quicksilver needs to still sort out the drivers issue. So since he hasn't responded we will give him and you a little extra help, as well, before we take you back to the lair. I want to give Krondax a little more time because he has to make a MAJOR decision for his character that WILL affect the storyline. In this case it has to be his choice. Then we will move onto Mao and get him moving in the right directions."
Quicksilver looks at Wheels who nods slightly. He turns to the Young Yak boss, "Mr. Haseltorn will be very pleased. I am sure he will wish to arrange a suitable gift for you all. The trucks will be picked up tomorrow in the usual way by the usual drivers." He turned and Wheels followed him back to the car and put his tools carefully away in the proper places after wiping them down. "Where to now?" Wheels ask a short while later as he got in to drive.
Quicksilver was scanning the area carefully in his usual cautious manner. Wheels always found this a bit disconcerting. Quicksilver NEVER seemed to look you in the eye unless you were a target he was going to eliminate. He was always looking around, constantly for the slightest changes. "We are going to the Beaver to arrange for some drivers. I need three drivers and three loaders, one of each for the three trucks. Have you tested the tracking devices yet to see if they will work? I would hate to have to start things tomorrow and find out they don't. It would be irritating."
"I just installed the things. I know they're installed correctly but I can't test them until I get this console installed to a power source. Preferably a movable one. I don't tell you how to grease someone, so don't push when it comes to my job. If they don't work it's because you bought busted gear and you certainly have given me absolutely no chance to take this stuff apart and check it. So if you have issues, go talk to the slag you bought this stuff from. It's good stuff at first glance. It should work. If it don't we try again with other stuff later." Wheels stated slightly irritated. What was this drek? Quicksilver must be a little on edge and he wondered what kind of mess the lure of money had gotten him into now.
Quicksilver said nothing as Wheels drove towards the Beaver. It took roughly an hour to get there because the afternoon traffic was picking up fast. He was shocked though when he got to the location. The whole road was blocked off for construction. It was MAJOR construction too. With Quicksilver pointing the way he was permitted in and a special sticker was affixed to his car. The physical security was heavy. As Quicksilver left the parked car with Wheels left behind to wait and went inside, Wheels noticed several things. The sidewalks had been dug up and ripped out. A huge trench had been dug around the building and pop-up barriers were being installed. HEAVY pop-up barriers. What the heck was going on? Did Dom expect someone to drive a fragging garbage truck full of C-5 into the building? It seemed like he did. Wheels continued to watch with interest. He noticed several guards were watching him as well. He smiled for the cameras.
Quicksilver went in, The interiors was completely torn up. Wiring crews were everywhere. The interior walls had been ripped up. The supports were being re-enforced and he noticed bomb vents were being installed. This was interesting. If a bomb went off here, structural damage would be minimized because the blast affect would be channeled through these vents. Oh sure there would still be some damage but it would be drastically reduced. He went into JJ's temporary office where she was checking the account books and supervising the work. She looked up as Quicksilver entered.
"I need three drivers and and three loaders for the trucks to make delivery tomorrow." In typical fashion he told her nothing else. JJ smiled at him. "Already laid on. Three of our most trusted drivers and their loaders have already gone through our new security screening process. They will be there in the morning with the maps of the routes they are to take. Which brings me to a related problem. None of the team you are working with have gone through the new security process. Since they are runners they probably won't like it. That means though that from now on we will be coming to your lair when we need to talk. Since Davik is gone that means your new man, Wheels, will have to arrange for our access. I have it on excellent authority that your place is bugged. Eon told Dom and I believe her."
Quicksilver looked thoughtful for a moment, "Why would the Retro's bug our lair then tell us? It makes no sense unless they are trying to humiliate us. Stupid of them if they are trying to make us look bad so they can look good. Paybacks can be a real life fragging experience."
JJ laughed, "Exactly, so they aren't the one's that have you bugged. They bugged someone else and picked up the Intel from there enemies that YOU are bugged. They are letting you know. The Retro's according to Devlin don't have direct information about what your saying but they are aware you are being monitored."
Quicksilver looked at JJ directly and she got the impression he might be a little jealous, "You're messing around with Krass and he's giving you pillow talk?"
JJ stood up and placed an arm on Quicksilvers shoulders. "Not pillow talk. A private strip show. Nothing more than I do at work. He does pay well for the privilege and we do need the information. Dom needs the information, skills and talents that the Retro's have spent years perfecting. We all have our jobs to do." She sat back down and smiled sadly at Quicksilver then her voice became all business again, "You need to get Wheels on Security. Eon gave me a clue for you. She says don't waste your time looking for electronic or magical leaks and it's not a spy. She says as Chief of Krass Security she already did background on our people."
"That doesn't leave much to look for. Why do the Retro's always speak in fragging riddles? I'm betting she KNOWS exactly how it was done and could tell us just as easy as not." Quicksilver looked disgusted. Another fragging corp playing games with his life.
"It's obvious. They want us to learn our own methods and techniques. They aren't going to be a crutch for us. They will give us a hand up with support, advice, comments, NuYen and even ideas occasionally but if they don't see us trying or working hard to improve they will be gone like a shot. Krass won't waste time on deadbeats! If we want a partnership then we have to be working partners and we have to be useful. The moment we don't hold up our end, the Retro's will be gone looking for someone who will!" JJ stated decisively. "Dom KNOWS this, now you know it."
"Just what is it that the Retro's think they will get out of us? Somehow I can't see Krass doing this out of the goodness of his heart, Even if he was to get that insane we know Drassel doesn't have any heart, he just keeps his targets hearts as trophies." Quicksilver stated with finality.
JJ smiled, "If that isn't the truth, I don't know what is. Drassel has got to be the scariest guy in the whole Retro's group because his methods are always on legal grounds. That's a little like saying he plays successfully on quicksand. Legal or illegal is what he can make anything and the only weakness I see in him is his greed which seems to rival Krass's as well." JJ looked thoughtful, "What do they want from us? Simply more power. If we have as much potential as they think we have they want to add that power to their's. It does seem to be a pattern with them. They have other power groups they have helped like the Four Aces. They obviously want us for our specialty. Right now that is smuggling and transport. When they get done with us? Who knows where we will be. A lot depends on what we do. Maybe even the Retro's don't know. They are giving us the chance to carve out our own space."
JJ Looked up at Quicksilver chidingly, "Now get going and find that bug and settle the Tony problem. Expenses are getting high on this caper and we have had enough disruptions already on our time tables. I have work to do." Quicksilver nodded and walked back to the car where Wheels was waiting. Wheels was not going to like his new job. Quicksilver smiled and several workers seeing that smile got out of his way, fast!

What the frag? Drek sure changes when you don't come around for a few days... The changes to the Beaver were a little startling considering he'd been there just last week. He and Jorinda had been doing some checking into some left over details from that botched pick-up run that Dom had hired him to do, that had turned into a free run to California and then Japan. Heck, Bobby had even managed to come out of that little caper 11,000 nuyen richer and picked up a couple of items along the way. He hadn't even had to do much...To bad he was having trouble tracking down his leads about that other stuff...
Wheels waited outside in the car for about 15 minutes, during which time he played around a bit with the tracking receiver. He couldn't do much without a power source, but the mother board looked fine, and the device was fairly compact, not larger than a thick technical manual. It even came equiped with enough wiring that Bobby could practically plug it into whatever he wanted. Almost. But the dwarf didnt want to plug it into his main ride, and he sure didnt want to do it here. Maybe back at the garage in Tacoma...Not as many eyes to be avoiding...
Quicksilver finally came back and Bobby slid the receiver back into the case on the back seat. The elf had a sinister smile on that made several workers step quickly out of his way. He climbed in the car and smiled at Bobby. "Oi, easy on the door chummer, no need to slam it...Why are you...smiling...like...that?" Wheels asks suspiciously.
"Well Bobby, you did such a good job planting the devices, I need you for some more work... Bobby rolled his eyes and thought to himself. Frag!! I knew there would be a catch. Prolly wants me to track the trucks too. I better see some nuyen at the end of this...
"There is a couple things I need from you. You may have guessed the first. I'm going to need you to handle that thing, and track the trucks for us. That's no problem. It's the other thing I need that is going to be the kicker. See, I and a few other chummers are working out of a secure location located downtown. Problem is, the secure location is not so secure. I have it on good authority that there is some sort of snooper bug in our hideout. I need you to find it. We had another guy looking after it, but he has been...reassigned...You up for it?" Quicksilver was still smiling that sinister smile and it gave Bobby the shivers.
Bobby looks around quickly, glad that the windows were up on the car."Don't use my name you fragger." Bobby looks angry and that only makes Quicksilver's smile tighten. Bobby backs out of the stall and winds his way thru the construction before driving towards downtown. He always thought better when he was in motion...
"So basically you need a security rigger? I gotta tell you, I am more of a driver/pilot that a spider monkey. I know a bit, and I have a friend who I could call. I'm guessing since you are talking to me, you are hard up and short on time??" Bobby looks in askance towards the elf passenger who gives a curt nod. "I see. Alright, well, any idea what kind of bug it is? Any idea at all?" This time, Quick gives the negatory shake of his head, as Bobby continues.
"Well, I guess the first thing to do is to scan the place for electronic bugs. I can't do much about other kinds of surveilance, like magical, but we can scan for electronic bugs. I know a guy..." Bobby turns the car towards the I-5 and heads towards Puyallup. His chummer Buddy might have a bug detector kicking around in his garage...

Quicksilver looked at Wheels calmly, "Not that I'm trying to do your job and not that you shouldn't be cautious because I know nothing about bugging either. I was told by the same source that mentioned we were bugged that it was NOT electronic, it wasn't a spy, and that it wasn't magical in nature. If my contact was right you would be wasting your time going that route and as you pointed out we have very little time to waste."
Wheels grumbled for a few moments under his breath then spoke out loud. "Then what the heck is this GRAND MASTER PLAN? You know I am totally in the dark here. I was dragged in, had no briefing and I've been on the fragging move ever since. Just what the heck is it we are supposed to be earning money doing? Don't tell me someone hired you to track trucks and that is it because with what you paid for this box, for something so simple, you are going to be losing money on this! Remember, I AM a dwarf and if I don't see some major money at the end of this I am going to NOT be happy."
Quicksilver was calm as he watched the streets go by. "Davik made the plan, and he sure didn't tell us where we should go from there. Only orders I got was get the device, get the trucks and drivers and be ready. Now if you will change the route back from heading where ever it is you're going and head towards Z street, we are supposed to be going to the underground garage of the ACE Tomato Company. There we will see Davik and get the next part of the plan. We can also get in touch with the team and see where we stand on the run and if sudden changes of plan are needed. Also don't you think you should see the place first before you make any prejudgments?"
"You're not going to tell me what the run is about are you." Wheels answered his own thoughts. "
"Not my place or job. Dom gave me my ORDERS before I even met this bunch. They are not the same orders Davik gave me. I brought you in because they assigned me a job outside my specialty. So far they haven't needed my talents. When they do, I'll be there." Quicksilver stated quietly. "The actual basic group we have been 'loaned' to is made up of Davik, some dwarf with an Intel background. A biff called Black Widow that has a hair trigger temper and has a background in Security, an adept who seems to go his own fragging way and that way never seems to make much sense, and a thieving, insulting street dwarf that knows more about what the heck is happening in Seattle than anyone I have ever seen in a long time outside of a corporate CEO. Each and every one of them is a space case in their own unique, frag the world way."
Wheels looked at Quicksilver in some shock, "You sure stepped in the Drek on this one, tall one. You got a guy with Intel background and a biff with sec background and you're fragging boss assigns you to do rigger work and then brings in the rigger to do his SEC work? The adept screws everyone, right?" Quicksilver nods with that slight smile. "Then you got some thieving dwarf but you keep him because he knows Seattle? What the frag kind of LOONY TUNES CARTOON have you brought me into?"
"Now you know why I was smiling. Welcome to the Shadow's, chummer, where it just keeps getting crazier every day." Wheel's started the car towards the Ace Tomato Company on Z street.

OOC: Pelch, "Krondax? The reading is good for you. You ought to be happy the storyline is moving along so well. Quicksilver and Wheels should be showing up soon and they have no idea that Davik is gone. You were planning on being back from your meeting in time to talk with them right? Reaching over to the box and takes out another cuban. She slowly puts the clipper over the end for show as she looked back up at the elf.
"So? I'm just a shadowrunner now. What is it that makes me so interesting to you?" she asks, accenting the questoin with a schwing sound as she clips off the tip. Reaching into a pocket, she takes out a white tipped match and draws it on the bottom of the desk, setting the match head ablaze and begins to blow out through the cigar to light this one as well.
"What is your motive behind this. You do know that I will be checking this all out before i truely believe you. You already messed up on your facts. It wasnt an old business partner, at least not one of mine. Never met the man before. it was an assassin hired to kill me by a pissed off business partner."
She tilted her head down as she took a long puff, tasting the smoke for a moment before exhaling it, Then she snappedd her head up fast to look at him. "You were the one who ordered those Shadow Riders killed. Weren't you?" she said as it slowly dawned on her. "Why, if you thiknk that pelch is going to be a problem, why not shoot him too?"

"Wait a second..." Wheels says thoughtfully, after a couple minutes of silence. "You said 'IF your contact was right. Why should we trust you contact? Drek, I don't even trust Dom most of the time, but he pays good. Problem with him is that he never tells the whole story. He believes in the old adage "Need to know basis" a little too much for my liking. Even when you ask the right questions. So, why should we assume anything? Why shouldnt we check everything from electronic bugging, to a spy, to magical surveilance?
Now maybe I am being a bit paranoid, but seems like we don't have a lot on our plates cept to follow some trucks. I can do that easy. I got me a helicopter if we need it."
"Look you fragger. I trust Dom, and I am the one that brought you in on this. Now, you gonna trust me or are we done here? I told you that I had it from a source that the spying is not any of the ways that we've been talking about. You just take my word for it." Quicksilver lapsed into silence as the two of them fumed in the car for the next few blocks.
Wheels drove northbound up 5th Avenue one block past Columbia St, turning right down Marion St. and slowed a block later as the road turned into Z street. The 30 story 'ACE TOMATO COMPANY' building loomed before them, and Quicksilver waved them to the underground garage.
A heavily armored security guard with an assualt rifle flagged them down with a raised hand in front of the closed and shuttered door. Damn thing must be at least 7 inches thick. Wheels thought to himself. Bobby pulled his Chysler-Nissan Sentra XI in closer to the thick armored door and another door just like the first closed down behind him. The car was sprayed with a foam solution and the car was automatically scrubbed.
"Hey, nice. A free car wash..." Wheels smirked. Quicksilver was not amused.
When the security guard asked for the pass thru the lowered window, Quicksilver handed over a pass key. The Guard checked it thuroughly and asked a few penetrating questions about who Bobby was.
"My new driver, I'm getting him his security passes when we get inside..." was all Quicksilver replied. The guard held up the scanner to Wheels and asked for his thumbprint. With a look at Quicksilver, Bobby grudgingly pressed his thumb to the indicated panel. The guard pointed at the camera located just above his security stall, and Bobby smiled a big cheeseburger eating grin, just to be a drekhead.
The guard looked like the type that had no sense of humor at all, but after several moments, he nodded and stepped back. The inner door was then opened by a second guard inside that door. Bobby pulled inside and the inner door lowered again behind him. Bobby followed Quick's directions to the back parking lot where two more guards waited in front of a heavly, locked, thick metal door. The banner above the door proclaimed: 'President and Vice President parking ONLY!'
"Wooo, who got promoted?" Bobby chuckled with an even bigger smile than his previous one. The humorless guard examined Quicksilver's pass while the other watched carefully his hand on a dead man switch. The pass was thoroughly examined and the guard asked again for more details about Bobby and the vehicle. Quicksilver sloughed it all off saying only "He's with me, my new driver, I am getting him his security stuff when we get inside." The Guard nodded and and took a retinal scan of Bobby, then his partner opened the door.
Bobby slide the Sentra thru the door and it closed with a 'Clang!' that resounded thru the underground structure. He noticed that a street bike and an Ares Roadmaster were parked side by side near the Vice-President(Visitor)'s stall.
The two metas climbed out of the car and moved into a small elevator like room in the back. It was unmarked with no buttons or controls. Quick pulled out a small plastic card carrying case and removed yet another passcard. Placing it in the unmarked and only slot on the wall, resulted in the floor gently angled downward from the back wall with small steps appearing in the floor, allowing them to walk down the ramp and into a tunnel.
Since Bobby was supposed to be looking after 'security' such as it was, he decided that he better pay attention. So far, he couldn't see how anyone could get past the exterior security without some major assistance, either in the form of hacking or forging the security passes, or without some help from someone on the inside, same as Quicksilver had just gotten him past. And even then, he had been printed, retinal scanned, his picture taken, and probably they'd taken a DNA sample too for all he knew. Drek, the nuyen better be worth all this hassle... he thought to himself as he stopped at the bottom of the stairs to peer up at the camera located about 8 feet from the door, pointing back down at him.
Least they got some decent equipment. That damn thing is a SECURICAM Network DCS-5330S. "Them things are wireless you know? They use wireless broadband networking to provide remote high-quality video and audio. My friend Buddy was showing me an article a while back about these. Not state of the art, but solid tech. Problem is, they use wireless technology, to communicate at a maximum wireless signal rate of up to 134Mbps. One problem with them is they communicate wirelessly. If you got the right frequency, they can be tapped."
Bobby tapped the walls and barked his knuckles on the solid concrete. Muttering softly to himself, he brought his hand up to his mouth to suck on his middle knuckle but stopped himself short upon seeing the faint traces of white powder on them. Raising an eyebrow at Quicksilver he brushes the dust off on his pants. "FAB treated. You know what that is?" At Bobby's negative head shake, Quick continued. "Think of it as magical protection. It supposedly keeps out magic...You know spirits and the like. Most of the place is coated with the stuff. I had someone that Dom knows check it out for me. Compliments of our hosts..."
Bobby nodded and the two continued down the concrete corridor for about another 35 or 40 feet. Bobby gazed suspiciously at several dark spots on the wall but he was unable to distinguish what they were exactly. They seemed to be holes thru a hard glass or plastic covering about 10 mm in diameter and were placed at various heights.
Continuing on the last few feet to another steel door, Quicksilver punches in yet another card from his passkey holder. Drek, I am going to be innundated by key cards... Bobby thought to himself, thinking of his lack of success in tracking down some other key cards that he had come into possession of...
The two metas strolled thru the door after it had slid to the left, and into what appeared to be the main living room of the hide out. An average height male human stood up from watching the Tri-D as the two entered...

OOC: Pelch, "Now that Wheels, he sure knows his stuff! Makes my job a whole lot easier. Good. I like what he is doing with the security. I was waiting for either his move or Widow's. I can now proceed. Time to get Mao in this game, now since he won't say anything, it seems like a good time for him to vent!." Mao looked at Quicksilver as he entered and spotted Wheels. "OH NO! Not another dwarf! One hoop hole leaves us high and dry and another walks in the door."Quicksilver looks at Mao, "Did they kill Pelch?""Pelch? Pelch has nothing to do with this. About three hours ago, Davik hands me the keys, the codes, the gadgets and walks out of here like Lou Ferrigno was about to do the incredible hoop wipe on him. Anyway, I gave all the stuff to Widow and then she walks out with all the stuff with no fragging word and I can't even contact her! I didn't have any way to contact you so I have been sitting here like an idiot waiting for someone to show up and tell me what the frag is happening! Where the heck have you been? The run is all in the sewer!" Mao looked like he was ready to walk himself. Wheels looked at Quicksilver, "The moron that does things his own way?" Quicksilver nodded. Wheels looked at Mao then back at Quicksilver, "I'll get you for this.""Shut up." Stated Quicksilver dryly to Wheels. He looked at Mao, "Calm down. You tell me Davik's gone? Quit? Now Widow's in charge? Then she probably went to get new instructions and consult with Johnson. It is NOT all in the drekker so ease back and let's see where we stand." Mao didn't look convinced but waited to see what would happen. Quicksilver motioned Wheels to a dwarf sized chair. "First, we HAVE made progress. We have the trucks and the drivers ready. The tracker is installed. This guy here," motions to Wheels, "is the new rigger. Now we don't know where Widow has gone but we can figure it has to do with Davik's sudden departure and without the codes and relays to the control room she is carrying we can't do much to contact her or work in here. It would seem the next best thing for us to do is to locate Pelch. It would be easy if we could tap into the tracker we planted on him. Unfortunately it was Davik's device and we have no idea what it is or how it works and it is probably part of those codes and keys. I don't think Wheels has a chance of a snowball in Hell of tapping into it at this time. So that's out. So looks like we sit and wait for Widow." He looked at Wheels, "Have a beer, relax and get some chow. It's another case of hurry up and wait. Meantime lets look at the revised situation." Quicksilver looked at Mao, "The last thing I knew before we walked out of here was the report you sent about Pelch getting rousted. Then all Hell broke loose and we heard of cops getting dead. Dom went to deal with Retro's, I went to get the tracker. Now what do you know about Davik?"Mao looked disgusted, "Not much. He was watching this broadcast and suddenly he's gone." He keyed the broadcast he had taped. The feared witch Katie Couric (aka The Dark Lady), Mistress of the Dark Forces and Lord of All Shadows, has sent terrified shock-waves through the entertainment industry as rumors fly of an imminent takeover of the onetime bastion of light, the UCAS Evening News.
"By all that's good and holy, I never thought it would come to this," said emeritus Lord of Light Pastor Luddington, who bore the mantle of Righteousness for decades before he could no longer keep the impending storm-clouds at bay. "Much that is great and good in that citadel could wither at the Dark Lady's touch. Verily, I do not know how much longer the warriors of truth can keep the Beacon alight. She is a far worse affliction than the soul killing Gorthan Destroyer of Life!"
Couric has gradually enslaved millions with her insidious morning show on UCAS Today and by the time anyone realized what was happening, she had grown too powerful to stop. For years she has openly flaunted her dominion over the shadows, cackling with glee as she shifted from heartwarming stories to warming hearts on a skewer over an open fire.
"She laid a glamor upon our vision, and long was it before the scales fell from our eyes! Too late! Too late!" whispered a terrified Howard Stern, a former UCAS executive who spoke anonymously. Stern, who is hiding from Couric's legions of flying monkeys in the basement at 378 Alhambra Lane, in Lincoln, Nebraska, 68503, was once one of the Dark Lady's minions, in the early days before she openly wove the clouds of mystic despair that today are the harbingers of her every utterance. "She devours five souls a day for breakfast, with whole milk and raisins! Please don't tell her I faked my own death to escape her employ!"
"We fear her because she has strange and mighty powers. We dare not disobey."! stated Rush Limbaugh fearfully who over the years has proven to have no small amount of power to control vast armies of mind numbed followers of his own. "She inflicts the GREAT Demons of Stupidity on all who dare to oppose her and even on those who dare to aid her in her fell schemes. I fear her more than any other member of the liberal press or Democratic Demagogues such as Mayor Krass who inflict countless woe upon our thriving business community and political matrix!"
Mayor Krass has vowed to take immediate action on the issue. In a personal KONG exclusive Mayor Krass made the following statement, "What this situation requires is A REALLY BIG BOMB. We need a fellow with a delicate touch. One who can blow out a candle without denting a candle holder. I have already appealed to Governor Schultz and she assures me that the UCAS military will waste no effort to provide us with a special operative to rid the world of this horrible menace!" Quicksilver thought a moment, "Well at least you had it taped. It seems pretty obvious. Davik had a background in Intelligence. It's obvious he was called away to handle this. We treat it like he's a loss and soldier on. Now he made Widow his second in command so she takes over. She obviously went to get instructions and make arrangements. So now all we have to do is look at the plan to see if it will still be workable. To me? It ain't. "Wheels looked disgusted, "You mean we can't use the trucks or the tracker now? Why am I NOT fragging surprised."Mao laughed, "Welcome to the Knuckleheads, Wheels is it? Of course the truck is useless. Three count them, THREE Lone Star cops got wasted in Denny Park. The Star is all over the Denny Park area! Do you really think anyone is going to hijack anything with all that heat going on? Everyone in the area is going to be laying low. That's why Pelch is in hiding. The Star thinks he has a hand in it and EVERY fragging street idiot with a gun is looking to net a large piece of NuYen just delivering his hide, DEAD or fragging ALIVE. We know which option most people will take. I suspect even the gangers are real eager to air his insides and grab the reward just so they can get back to biz as normal. Right now our run looks fragging hopeless." Wheels sat down with a large Nuke It fries and some Nat-Vat Kung Pow Pork. The only beer he had been able to find in the fridge was some Krass Light. He wouldn't touch that slop if all the demons of Sheol were on his tail. "So what the frag is the job? Anyone want to clue me in now or do I keep guessing?" Mao looked at Quicksilver who nodded, "The ORIGINAL job was to get down here and dig up information on a slag called 'Tony'. So far all we know is the same stuff Dom gave us. Tony may be magical. He's hooked into the Weeners, and is somehow behind truck hijackings of booze. What we have learned is that Tony has teamed up with the warchief of the weeners, Charles the Red and is backing his play to replace Slash and Burn the current head of the gang. Anyone even mentioning hijackings was ending up polluting the water off pier 70. Thats when the drek hit the fan. Pelch and I had it figured that there is more than one player in the game. We know of three but suspect more. Lonestar and Nestles was one player, Dom was another, then we had Tony and the weeners. We are not sure who the other player is but we know he leaked information about Pelch to make things hard for us. Have fun making sense of this fragged up mess."
