I think it could definitely be compatible. I mean, you've got Wendigos and Vampires and Ghouls and rogue spirits and all sorts of icky magic in Shadowrun. It could definitely be turned into a horror game, BUT (and this is like, a Rosie O'Donald sized but), it would take some serious retooling of the system, most notably in character creation. I would suggest that you reduce the starting equipment for the characters, as well as skills and ability scores. Shadowrun is a game geared toward killing people and blowing stuff up. I mean, it's what we do here. Call of Cthulhu is very much not about that... unless, of course, you're playing a Delta Green setting. But in CoC, the true horror is that the investigators are ultimately insignificant and powerless compared to the intersteller creatures they combat. It seems like that mentality would be very hard to translate to SR because of its gun-bunny tendencies. My advice? If you want a futuristic Call of Cthulhu game, just make up the setting on your own and use the regular CoC system. That way you don't have to reinvent the wheel... or, I mean, the wheel you have to reinvent isn't quite as big

i thought it would be interesting to give shadow runners an enemy the couldnt shoot or blow up and see how they deal, perhaps being hired to track a rich corp exes daughter who joined a kthulu cult in the barrens. in the mythos the enemies werent ever really anything you could shoot.

you need to be able to lay out the scene, and answer the clues and cues quickly else it drags on - it is hard to lay out clues and prompt the players to investigate without running the whole thing yourself ! I like Cthulu - lots of weirdy ideas... but as Mech says they tend to be toooo big to do much about, apart from killing all the crazy villagers. the evil minions however can be purged... I love the japanese ghost stories such an entertaining hoot! - but hard to crowbar into a shadowrun story... comic translated to film tend to be good believable settings if they leave out the computer generated stuff and the exploding penguins Blade Batman or even the comicbooks themselves heres an interesting one too: www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/13/13004.phtml
