Hi all,
Just found my way here today and am planning on staying quite a while.
SR2 and SR3 veteran with a love-hate thing going on with SR4. I am very interested in getting involved with a PBP game or two.
Quick questions for site vets - with regards SR3 character creation...
1) Do we use the points or priorities systems? 2) If points, how many are considered an "average" level? 3) Are characters created using the High Level options in Mr Johnson's black book acceptable? 4) Are Drake characters acceptable? 5) Is it possible to import a table top character from previous games to use on the boards?
I am sure I will have more questions, but these will do for now. I know some of the make me look a bit powergamery, but I just want to know the character creation parameters.
Look forward to playing with you.

Hello Blacklight, glad to see new faces around here.
now to the questions:
1-points or priority, doens't matter really, you can even use karma or any other method
2-I think it's 10 for the average.
3-dunno, I'll need to cehck it out.
4-Drake?..Again, dunno what it measn..
5-Yup you can.
basically, you can submit any type of char..a character specialist will check it out, and aprove it..but the final decision comes down to the GMs; if they judge that your char is too powerful or unbalanced, you can't use it in his/her game.
Frankly, I even believe you can mae any type of char; the char spec will point out that you might not see alot fo actionw ith it if it's too powerful and such
Hope that helps you a bit

Welcome to the pits of the Corporate Worlds. Hope you have a good-great time with us.
While Braddoc is All Wise(ass) and Powerful, my take on your questions is: 1 - Priority (Faster and cleaner and guaranteed to be compatible with all others) 2 - See above (otherwise 120) 3 - Not that I can foresee, unless a GM advertises for them 4 - No, again unless a GM advertises for one 5 - Definitely, See the character Peaches. Just let the Character Specialist know that the character is advanced so that he/she can mark the sheet appropriately for the GMs to know.
As for being Powergamery....heh you are far from the only one in here who wants the Biggest/Baddest character. (not that anyone will let me <sniffle>)

Many Thanks all
Will dust off a couple of my old toons then and think about which one to play. My old GM allowed a cash for karma deal - 5K per point, since the whole party was awakened...
I have a human ex-Sylvestrine excorsis (aspected conjuror) with 33 awarded karma and 38 purchased, and a human adept with 67 awarded karma and 55 purchased - off the top of your heads, would either of these be considered too over the top?
If so, no worries. I can remake either of em, although I do have a Namibian Hyena Shaman in mind as a new concept...

O.o.......
Nothing wrong with either. Most GMs probably will not use them as they are higher then the average, but within a couple of runs there should be a couple of characters who wont be sidekicks.
On the other hand don't be afraid to submit them cuz I could and have been wrong before. If possible list where the upgrades are, not necessary to list where they came from though. Unless you work it in a 35-page Character History. And yes 35 is the MINIMUM!
<dagnabbit I'll get a book out of this yet>

You got mail Xeno - went with a concept character in the end, not a retread.

Welcome Blacklight... I was a bit overwhelmed with 4th edition when I first got into it, I would urge you to stick with it, it is truely a less complicated system (in my humble opinion), 5's and 6's always hit, modifiers add or subtract the die rolled, not the number needed. (ps Braddock can be a wiseass, but then again so can all of us

Finally made an SR4 character that I connect with today during a quite period at work (have it on my work machine as a pdf). Adept with Power Throw and quickdraw... a bit "Bullseyeish" but thats all in the style. After more than 12-15 concepts, this is the first one that I connected with in anyway.
I a may just be persuaded to try SR4 at some point...

Hey If you want there is a new 3rd edition game starting soon head up to Shadows.net and see what GM's are trying to get runners. There is still time to get into a run and if you haven't submitted your character yet just let the GM know and he will let you know if that is fine or not. They usally will just ask for you to give them a copy of the character you submitted to them so they have a copy of it then they will give you the OK from there.
Oh Ya welcome to the sight I hope you injoy your self. See you in the shadows

I guess I can't let go of the nostalgia... but I will say that it helps to have a character that isn't min-maxed to the hilt to begin with.

From my POV running 3rd ed 'incidents' chars who come in with a lot of background could easily barge the weaker players out of the way, S'why theres a starting off equalising amount you can spend. Saying that, it wouldnt matter much for a Sammie as more weapon skills just make him wider not a huge amount better than others - wheras 50 extra pts on Stats, or for an awakened on spells does make a big difference.
Drakes - erm dragonnewts..? some folk take objection to them, others want to drain their essence...
'Powergameryness' is fine if you are willing to put in the time and effort to write your story, and rationalise what you want to become.. theres an awful lot of novels out there about various heroes - you all gott a start somewhere way back when... check out what Meg has been doing..
