Personality
Members of many Sioux tribes are often given names when they are children, and then given new names when they are older to reflect their character. Mahpuya's name translated from Lakota means "Thunder Cloud". The tribal elder that gave him the name said, "Your face is like a thunder cloud, always dark and forboding promising trouble to come." That pretty much sums up Thunder's personality. When he's not scowling, he's frowning. He offers very little to most conversations, unless they fall within his pervue (ie. blowing shit up, weapons, and killing stuff), and then his comments are most likely monosyllabic. He doesn't like people, he doesn't like stupidity, and has zero tolerance for stupid people. Despite all this, if you can get on his good side and stay there, Thunder is good guy to have on your side. He'll back his friends up no matter what the odds, and never leave a friend behind in a dangerous situation.
History
Thunder was born in a small Lakotan tribal community in what used to be northwestern South Dakota. He lived a routine life for one of his people in that area: helping around the farm, learning at the tribal school, and getting into trouble with the other kids that were his own age.
As was the law in the Sioux Nation, when Thunder turned 18 he was required to spend a year in the Sioux Defense Force. He did well in the military. He was big, tough, strong, fast, and was quick to learn. When his year was up, he opted to reneroll and spent four more years in the SDF. He enjoyed military life, and did well with it. When his four years was almost up with the SDF, he applied for a spot in the Sioux Nation's elite fighting force: The Wildcats. After some tests, both physical and mental Thunder was accepted into the ranks of The Wildcats.
The next year was spent in even more intense training, and when it was finished he went into active duty. The next two years were busy, and went fast. But he found the work to be interesting, exciting, and worthwhile.
And then the drek hit the fan.
While operating outside of the Sioux Nation borders (he won't say where to this day), his unit was placed under the command of an officer with the Office of Miltary Intelligence. The mission was talked up as a cakewalk, but ended up being a bloodbath. 5 members of Thunder's unit were killed, mostly due to some bad intel supplied by the OMI officer. When the unit returned to Cheyenne, Thunder was called before a tribunal to testify about what had happened. He knew that blaming the OMI guy was career suicide, but he did it anyway. He was thanked for his testimony, and heard through the grapevine that the OMI guy had been disciplined harshly. Thunder was pleased, but it didn't bring back his 5 friends that died.
Several weeks later, Thunder was attacked outside of a bar in Rapid City. The three assailants were good, but were not ready to deal with a pissed off Wildcat. Although he took a couple of bullets, and a slash from a knife he killed two of the assailants. The third attacker, desperate to get away, begged for his life with some good intel. The OMI officer had hired these clowns to kill Thunder, and plant some embarresing things in his hotel room. Things that would make everyone he ever knew ashamed to have known him. Thunder headed back to Cheyenne.
After a week of surveillance, Thunder hit the OMI man in a parking garage. The guy never saw it coming. Thunder hid the body in the guy's car, and bought a bus ticket for the first bus leaving town.
