Yeah, sometimes I wonder if Microsoft just hates the 'old FASA. They've taken some of the grate FASA products (Battletech/Mechwarrior and Shadowrun), dug out their insides, and replaced it with cheap, mass produced content.
Though, I can hardly be mad at them anymore. It's what they do: take pure, wholesome originals and mangle them into barely recognizable shells of what they once were.
Getting mad at Microsoft for doing that would be like getting mad at a lion for killing a defenseless little antelope. It's their nature
Oh, and on a side note... that's going on my signature!

What can a lonely little Shadowrunner hope to do to help get the corp to do the right thing?
Well I got the game today, This is not the shadowrun we all wanted it is a street brawl with a small feeling of shadowrun there. Sad real sad all I can hope is this version does good enouph and all the screaming on the main page will get the corp Microsoft to get someone who can to make this game the way it was ment to be an RPG.

Saw this, thought it might be pertinent.

is a little late now . . but if that abomination of a game they dared to call shadowrun is not enough to get you really really angry at micro$hit, i think the fact that they have just killed of an independend project working on a shadowrun MMO and allready good ways into alpha stage should suffice . .

i've been to our biggest electronics retailer some days ago . . i saw the game standing there . . neither on the shelf nor on the table was even one copy missing as it looked like *g* . . it will share the faith of unreal2 and stalker . . but THAT abomination will have the price crash even before the first copy is sold i think . . especially because it is as of yet Vista-Only and close to nobody has that shitty piece of OS . . at least nobody who plays games *g*
i read somewhere, that they "had acknowledged the voice of the fan community and might go looking into making an Shadowrun MMO(RPG)" . . but seriously? with how the FPS is doing right now? i highly doubt it . . even though they probably could have what's been done with SRO allready . . and even if they do it . . it will probably look and feel like WOW <.< . .

so i've been told *g* hey, WOW is kinda fun if you play on pirate servers and just for fun . . but it just can't be done with shadowrun like that . . because in shadowrun, there is no grind, no levelling up and no going out to hunt critter XYZ and finding some uber-1337-gear on it . . it'd probably end up being a hell-hound killed dropping wired reflexes level 2 as an ultra rare item *g*

A few years ago there was an mmorpg called "Neocron" .
In my oppinion it was as close to a decent shadowrun addaptation as it could be . Unfortunately it was made by people who decidet to listen to forum whiners , resulting in a new rebalance patch every second week , while at the same time keeping every bug from beta alive to the day I quit the game (after 2 years) .
As long as big M owns Shadowrun , I´ll happily stick to my pen , my paper , my dice and my sixpack , knowing I will miss nothing by not spending time on a Mycrapsoft Shadowrun Rape .

Even before that there was a game called Neuromancer. You started in a diner in Chiba City with no memory waking up with your face in a bowl of spaghetti. (heh heh heh)
Now that goes a long ways back computer wise.
For those that desire to know more I offer the following info: Neuromancer is a computer adventure game created by Interplay Productions in 1988 and distributed by Mediagenic (a brand name that Activision was also known by). It was designed by Bruce Balfour, Michael Stackpole, Brian Fargo, and Troy A. Miles who was also responsible for the programming.
It is based loosely on the William Gibson novel of the same name, Neuromancer, and is a traditional side scrolling adventure game that takes place in both the "real world" and the extensively realized world of cyberspace. It is also noted for having a soundtrack based on the Devo song "Some Things Never Change".
Taking place in the year 2058 in Chiba City, Japan, the plot centered around the protagonist attempting to discover the truth behind the mysterious disappearances of their friends as well as other, less than friendly, cyberspace cowboys. Unfortunately, the player's character has fallen on hard times and had to pawn their deck in order to get some fast cash as soon as they had arrived in Chiba City. The first order of business is in trying to find a way to get a deck once you figure out where you are.
The gameplay was split between a traditional side-scrolling adventure where the player would interact with 'real world' inhabitants within Chiba City and a 3D grid representation of cyberspace once they had managed to regain access. Cyberspace combat was also simulated in the game as the player attempted to breach ICE (Intrusion Countermeasure Electronics) to gain entry to database nodes or in facing the formidable AI that they may discover instead. Skills and abilities were purchased as "skill chips" that were used in a brain jack implanted in the protagonist's head, giving him an edge in a variety of situations.
The game also used a code wheel as a form a copy protection. The code wheel was necessary to access the PAX terminals in the game at certain points and without it, the player was not able to proceed. * Neuromancer at MobyGameswww.mobygames.com/game/neuromancer/ * Neuromancer | Revision A game inspired by Interplay's Neuromancerwww.neuromancer.moddb.com/
