Mao continued to walk with Pelch having no idea where they were going but thinking steadily. "So you're saying we can do whatever we want and they'll never believe Freddy even if he discovers we did it? They'll just ignore everything he says?"
Pelch looked at Mao disgusted. "Of course not you idiot! You know sometimes you're so dumb you think Sherlock Holmes is a housing project. Let me make it crystal clear. You've worked with the Star and they have absolutely no sense of humor, they're paranoid to the max and they have all the compassion of a drekload of pigs. Now if Freddy goes to them with his proof of course they'll investigate it if it concerns a couple of street troublemakers called Pelch and Mao!"
"If he goes accusing Captain Krunch though they are going to ignore and dump it. They are going to be sure that Freddy is trying to hose them up. Widow and he are under investigation by Krunch. The Big Wigs in the Star pulled the street investigators off a possible huge bust. Krunch is a street cop even undercover and the other street cops won't like the admin boys playing in this way. That is going to make the rank and file real paranoid about their superiors. Captain Krunch has an UNTARNISHED reputation. You told me that yourself. Those criminal buddies you seem to have made at the State Pen are going to make sure he stays cleaner than clean. So what's the typical Star Street Monster going to think? They are going to do EVERYTHING to protect their brother. What else will happen?" Pelch stated to Mao with a smile to see if his pupil was following the trail.
"That Freddy is trying to pull a fast one. That he's out to screw up the investigation and maybe try to get at Krunch. That would to them make it proof positive that Freddy is bad. You're right they'd ignore what he said about Crunch. They'll even be suspicious about anyone Freddy points at especially if they met him and recognize the snake, so they might watch us but they won't do anything unless we do something blatantly stupid. So what's the new job?"
"A Z Street and Freddy setup of course."
"You lost me again."
"Think it through. Freddy and Headcrack are working together just dragging the Widow along. Probably Freddy don't even have a clue on this part. Z gets Freddy and Widow off and under Freddies ID and old phone they send the Star all kinds of info about Pelch and Mao, in Freddies name! Then all they need to do is get us to do something blatantly illegal! The Star can then pick us up and grill us about Freddie and Widow! Maybe they even turn up items they would like to get off us, valuable items they think we have, even if we don't. Then they can get warrants and take everyone and everything apart we own. So Headcrack puts out a nice high paying low key but illegal job out and Bunny sees it. Anyone else applying is refused. She snatches it up and low they have us bracketed. Just let the Star do the dirty work under Freddies name."
"You see Freddies going to be the cutout between Z and us so they can deny everything and if the Star sees him paying Headcrack for a transaction then that gives Smythe a third level of deniability. A rogue employee. The Star is going to be all over Freddie even if they get us."
Mao's face suddenly changed. Gone was the vacuous expression. Mao smiled. It was not a pleasant smile. His eyes were hard as rocks and his face expressionless. Pelch didn't notice. "That means that Z can eliminate all the old team using the Star. All embarrassing connections are eliminated after they get what they want and they'll sell all the parties and make a huge profit."
Pelch still hadn't noticed a change in his partner as he was thinking furiously as he walked. "Don't concern yourself with that. It's an easy trap to avoid. We let BB take Headcracks money but we don't do a thing to earn it. Nothing illegal at all. Freddy looks more guilty. Headcrack will complain to Smythe or his goons but when they see the Mafia guarding you it's going to be real expensive to take revenge. Smythe will do nothing. It's petty coinage and only Headcrack looks like an idiot. "
"If Freddy and Headcrack have an accident caused by Smythe?"
"Smythe won't kill anyone unless he can get us all and he wants us to do it to ourselves. No need for them to end up dead if we just avoid the traps. Even idiots like Widow and Freddie will be safe enough, I'm smarter than both of them on their best day. Eventually Z will give it up as unprofitable and leave us all alone."
Mao's face relaxed and his normal posture resumed. " I see your natural modesty kicked in again. I wouldn't underate Freddy and Widow if I were you. Good though, so what are we doing out here, anyway?"
"Having a day off. Taking a walk in the sun and working on our tan's. Eying the chicks. Doing some shopping. Eating fine foods and drinking wine while we are running all the tails on us around on Smythe's, Headcracks and the Star's dime of course. I may be a burnt out old street dwarf and an ex-intelligence operative, but I ain't stupid."
Pelch walked on blissfully unaware that he had almost unleashed a monster that would have hunted down and killed his old partners and anyone else he perceived as a threat to his senile old master. The Beast watched from behind the vacant face of Mao, always alert, and ready for blood.

Headcrack was speaking hypothecically from our point of view - if it had been him who the dynamic duo stitched up then he would have killed them - why wait for another setup which could be nastier? But its not him, its us.
Headcrack moonlighting? no doubt anything he arranged with us will have been reported in and OKayed - if it hasnt been then he is a fool - which he aint.
I said before that we are being used to track down the files - Z-street wants to zero in on BBs johnson who is messing around with KD&A's Skagit project. Anyone scary enough to mess with that will be a major player - so this is all about power politics.
Pelch an Mao take the opportunity to grab the files - leaving us in the frame. Suddenly charges are dropped - fees waived - and we are provided with chunks of useful information to point the finger. Your instincts are right about us being wound up and pointed in the right direction to see what we can uncover just to be swatted at the end of it all. We need a way out of this mess.
As for paying back z-street - any information released to us will have a price - we play ball. They expect some kind of results at some point.
You asked two further points - Mao and why.. One thing Control taught me was to zero in on the problem at hand rather than fart around postulating and wasting time with 'what ifs' so that is what I have been following up - a line of enquiry resulting in a couple of answers.
firstly - you are now imagining that Mao has suddenly scared KD&A to the point of upping sticks and taking the first stage out of town. Their organisation has gone toe to toe with the meanest.. Yes the guy has changed his attitude - any proof or even conjecture of him being scary?
Brings me to point 2 - the trids. Headcrack filled us in with what he had found on them - On the external trids is the traffic disturbances by Mao and his combat driving - then theres the snaxbar ID from across the street along with the doctored security trid which isnt generally available - so why doctor it unless it is very important.
I have been scanning them and we now have proof that the dynamic duo were at the attorneys offices just after us. Their images were wiped off the tapes But get this - it was the Star that wiped them off the security tapes.. I think we just made a link between Captain Crunch and Pelch and Mao.
That would be good reason for powerful political manouvering. The Star and the City want to keep one of their deepest resources covered up - KD&A and the NAN get bullied - forced to take a step back away from the official powers flexing their muscles in Seattle.
I am making a couple of leaps of faith here - either Pelch or Mao is a real deep operative - who's current target has to be to do with the Skagit biz. They dropped us in it to get rid of us. Anyone with a huge amount of clout from the Star and the City could have easily dissappeared us instead. So some thanks for small mercies
It would seem that Mao is the deep op - he is the one who was able to rustle up some heavy protection from both sides of the fence to allow him to get on with his job of chasing the package.
Smythe has fed us enough to crowbar between the cracks. He could have ordered Headcrack to sit on any useful information - but instead wants us to make trouble. Like you say, enoughh to bury us and bring attention to anyone involved in the files.
Headcrack backs z-street because they pay good. And this is where we stop and take account of what we have..
Which is a pile of information which could be used to make us two and Mao and therefore anyone he is with into kebabs. Best thing we can do is just fade into the shadows.
You could - but I cant disappear. We could go one better though and repair a few bridges. We give the intel to Mao and then we bugger off. that will provide him with a little trust from us. z-street seem intent on stirring things up - but I dont think that Captain Crunch has come to the attention of Headcrack yet - Headcrack would have been reluctant to share that intel but he was happy to let the Pelch incrimination go easy enough.
Smythe may realise who Mao is and play that as part of power politics but he wont release that information in general - otherwies Crunch gets his cover blown and suddenly we are all useless to everyone.
Nah.. a way around that is to put someone into the Star security picture to take the place of Mao. or even better, underneath the rubbed out trid footage of Mao - now that would be good because a copy may not go that deep... but the originals would. That would get Mao off the hook when it is released and it will be released eventually by z-street when they want to stiff Mao. Until then they have to keep us worms on the hook.
What do you think Widow? does that fall into place - ?
Next we pay a visit to the house of Pelch - They need to know what is happening - forewarned is forearmed an all that -
Sounds like you want to throw your lot in with Mao and the current City fathers and earn the emnity of KD&A and the NAN - if they get stiffed then they will come looking for us. We are caught between the Devil and the Deep Blue - cant we just duck at some point?
The thing that would keep Cpt Crunch's identity would be putting someone different into the pasted-over trid-footage. Replace Mao with another person hidden deeper - that would protect the Crunch identity. But who? BB and Fangs have the capability and Mao has the access to the original Star footage. That is probably a little over the top but...
If z-street is still involved which it sounds like they are - then they will be bringing a lot of resources to bear. All of the eateries and bars close to Pelche's place ought to have been bugged by Control - they should be able to spot anyone making contact in that area.
We need to pay off Z-street with info that the files are being delivered which will have to cause some kind of political fallout reaction somewhere - so we need to confirm that they have been sent - That needs arranging with BB and the others.
It would also be useful to get Headcrack out of there in case he gets disappeared out of spite.
and if Mao tell us to spin on it?
then we inform Z-street that we are no longer of use and they take the cost of the oporation involving us out of our hides - though I would point out that it was us who instigated the trid searches that got them on the trail of identifying Mao so it ought to even out.. - I think anything involving Crunch identification would get us killed.. so we keep that stumm.
And we dip back into the shadows.. You realise that most of this is aimed at keeping the public ID of Mao and the deep ops Crunch Identities totally seperate
We'll see - first we need to arrange a contact and then a meet. We are expected to get in touch but we talk under strict security.
What if Mao/Crunch is relaying his intel back to his handlers in the Star - he is stuffed with cyberware so he could easily transmit
then the Star will understand our plan and help keep Crunch under wraps - If they think we are too much of a threat then we get visited by a special ops team.. which means anyone who knows is in danger which means that a war breaks out if they decide to start culling z-street because that is where our trail comes from.
How about you go into hiding and I do the meet -
No - they could get to me through my family - If we blab then there is the whole of the Star to hunt us down.
We have made the connection from Pelch to the attorney which links to the files - that was our job and is the reason for us being around so we play that. In the course of this we have uncovered a deep operative - probably the Star's best. They havnt killed Pelch so why kill us and Fangs and BB

.... in disbelief "Now that has been one of the most convoluted rationalizations I've heard in a long time. Given the situation though you seem to be doing the work of three men, Curly, Larry and Moe. For a guy who wants to get directly to the heart of the matter you're sure ignoring the facts that don't fit and that can be deadly. So don't mind if I poke some little old holes in your supremo fantasy scenario and inject a little of the nasty old Shadow life poison in your carefully built up and logical structure. I'll just cover a few points because it would take forever to cover all of them. I'll bring forward what I think is important, OK?"
"I don't believe Headcrack was just speaking 'hypothetically'. One of the first things we learned at the Z was NOT to make or TAKE threats lightly! Remember? That rule still applies when dealing with those thugs. Headcrack and Pelch were both proved very apt at that particular rule. That rule of thumb has been proved over and over again by all of us. It's a stupid thing to warn your opponent if you plan to do him or her dirty and if it's a bluff? Never Bluff!"
"Make a threat like that and you better mean it and you better take it serious when it's made. Only a complete fool will assume it's a bluff. How many times has it been drummed into us don't make a threat you're not prepared to back up? I'll say it again to get it through that thick skull. Don't Bluff and don't be so stupid as to warn the other guy you're coming! You think Headcrack forgot that? Either Headcrack was giving you a very blatant warning that we are ALL targets or that the Z does fully intend to kill. In case that escapes your attention while you're trying to put a rainbow on the situation or you want to weasel out from facing reality and you enjoy putting it all in a good light so you can feel good, that happens to include us as well."
"At least you admit that Headcrack is doing this all on the orders, the very closely monitored orders, of Control or Smythe, maybe both. Can you see either of them NOT knowing what is going on. The tapes we were fed just happened to show Mao driving around the city. They could have been pulled off any camera and dubbed in and done so smoothly by Headcrack and Company that you would never be able to tell the difference. Don't try to beat a Corporation or a Specialist in their own trade, you're not at that level. I remember BB telling you this is one of your major problems. You assume you're as good as the expert in their field. Clue, not even a genius is expert in every field. You are a jack of all trades. You know just enough of each specialty to make you think your good at it. You will never match someone in that field that specializes in just that field. You're too spread out."
"Now at least you admit we need to get out of this mess, but then you tell me how you intend to dig us further into it. Your reasons for continuing are more out of whack than your previous suppositions. You are working off theory not proved fact. The way to get out of this mess is to NOT pursue this any further! What difference does it make if BB's Johnson is going to hoopfrag KD&A or Smythe? We aren't getting paid and if you see any more than a tenuous paycheck at the end of all this then clue me quick. If the money is that good I might take the risk, but working for pie-in-the-sky, by and by, is not what I plan on doing here. Especially when Mr. Death is keeping the score. I remind you we have no backup team or extra resources or expertise to pull us out of a jam on this one and you could be spending large amounts of NuYen for no gain. You may be that rich but a girl's got to live and I can't AFFORD that kind of long term investment when the outlook looks so bleak."
"Now you say you been scanning Pelch and Mao and you have proof positive they were there. Show me that proof. Show me stand up in a courtroom evidence that they actually did it. Why do you think that a mages testimony is not ALLOWED in any UCAS court of law? No one can truly verify it and you're already tarred with a suspicious brush. You are a snake and a mage and you're already on the Star's watch list."
"Any evidence you gather magically is not going to stand up because it involves so many legal issues, like privacy, just as the least of these. The evidence you do have does not come from what I call a dis-interested or uninvolved source either and could easily be doctored. In short, you don't have any reliable witnesses, solid evidence or even a smoking gun! It's all curcumstantial. It wouldn't need a Shyster Drassel to tie you in knots in any courtroom or even at the Star on what you think you know especially since no one in his right mind would trust a snake anyway."
"Now the reality? What difference does it make to pursue this NOW? Sure, we get the satisfaction of KNOWING that Pelch or Mao did it and that's all! C'mon, do we really NEED to prove it to ourselves? I'm sure the bastiage had a hand in somewhere just because I dislike the fragger so much anyway. In my book the runt is always guilty."
"As for you, planning on getting even? Going to spend NuYen to set the fragger up? It's a waste of time and NuYen chummer, they won't learn a thing from it. I got better things to do than pursue a vendetta over a night in jail and a grilling by the boys in blue. How much are you out on this? You see you don't have a nice Z check coming in every week now. Better at least watch the bottom line, chummer, or Meg will be kicking you're hoop all over the house. As for me? I'd much rather see if we can find Quick. I have personal reasons for that but I find I have a lot more to gain than by following your path to Hell."
"As a final check on your sanity let's talk the Mao issue. You already got it from Headcrack that Krass resigned as Mayor. The old KD&A building is up for sale and the Retro's are gone. SKAGIT was a CITY Power Utility that Krass contracted to himself to build! So guess what? That means that Skagit is no longer a KD&A ASSET it's a city asset! Now catch me if I'm wrong here. The city has budget problems. Krass would have looted the treasury pretty thoroughly before he left. Can you see Drassel missing that? If there was any gain in it still do you think Krass would have left? So the city is NOT going to be able to maintain the level of SECURITY out at Skagit. They'll get cheap. There will be budget cuts and layoffs. Now you think BB's Johnson went away? Like sitting next to a fusion bomb? Want to be the one to set it off? Keep messing with Smythe and Z and you just might have a close up and first hand look at a Fusion Explosion. So NO, almost all you told me doesn't fall into a nice neat place. We don't have enough information to make it fall into place."
"We have theories. We have guesses but Z Street never did give us all the information in our time with them. If we were picked up we could spill nothing. Heck even Dom had that rule. Pelch understood that. We make guesses based on what few facts we know. So let me give you a fact. The last time we saw Control she jacked everyone over with the old military with gestapo boots, of do what I tell you when I tell you or else. The one person she didn't do that to was Mao! Why? You see that IS a fact we all witnessed. You assume Mao is Krunch, but again, you have NO proof. If anything, the fact WE BOTH know point to Mao being on the OTHER side of the fence. He has the fragging Mafia guarding him. Last I heard the Star and the Mafia were not in bed together so got any proof that will stand up in a court of law? I suspect not. Do you still want to rush headlong into the grave? Better give me a bottom line a chummer is willing to risk her pretty hoop over first, OK?"

as he darkened and shielded the pay phone booth. "Sure I'm buying. I've got the cash in hand but what is it you think you're selling?"
BB hung up the trace. Pelch had set up the time when he would call on the pay phone and which phone he would call on. She had shielded the call and the code phrase that was sent had told her the story. Mao and Pelch were being tailed. Cash in Hand meant they had spotted Star Investigators watching them but no Z Street operatives. That could mean that Freddy might have gone to the Star to squeal or that someone wanted it to appear that way. That made it clear that probably Freddy and Widow were now being tailed as well. She hoped they were smart enough to go to ground for a couple of months and stay legal. Pelch would not be doing that run after all.
BB didn't feel bad about taking the nice payment of 10,000 NuYen up front from the mysterious Johnson and the expense she sent him would net another 10,000 before he tumbled to the fact the team was NOT going to bite. She sent the Expense voucher off immediately. There would be several more each small enough to look legit and reasonable and would give the illusion of preparation and steady work.
Whoever was paying them was trying to set them up. That gave the runners grounds for walking according to the contract she had made and they would, eventually, and the Shadow World would know that this particular Johnson was a hoop fragger. He could whine and complain but everyone would know that you don't frag with the 'Ghosts'. The new name she picked up for this team.
She had received word also from the Skagit Johnson. He had forwarded a 50,000 bonus for the recovery of the papers and had terminated their contract with a highly satisfied. It appeared that he now anticipated that the Skagit Facility security would be considerably weakened in the future and the City would be forced to shut the operation down. He stood to make a large amount of NuYen on that deal. He had attributed it to the work that Mao and Pelch had done. The problem is she didn't know what the pair might have done to earn the bonus but she wasn't going to argue with success. A job successfully completed. With maybe the chance to get more work later.
That only left the "Wheels" contract left. She hadn't heard from him in months and since he was arrears in his payments she could safely drop that run with cause. It appeared the Z Street idea of 'Redemption' had failed but the run had an ending anyway, as most things do, partially successful and partially failed. Time and the unknown had completed that bit of biz to the benefit of most of the team.
So where did everyone stand? Wheels, and Quick were both unknowns. Headcrack was still playing footsie with Z and he could have it. Z was playing games but they were already so far out and behind the picture that they made no difference now. KD&A appeared out of the picture too or at least so far back in the shadows somewhere that they made no difference to this group.
Freddie and Widow were supposedly independents but they were still messing around with Z, something this current group had NO intentions of ever doing again. As long as they were going to play in the Z they could have it. The current group was comprised of Fang's as a rigger, Mao as a mage adept field op, Pelch as a street warrior and thief and herself as the decker and cyber doc. A bit slim but the fewer people the more likely they could squeeze under the lights.
BB quickly used some of the new expenses money to re-rent the rooms at Mao's place and the Sinking ship and contacting a reliable company, she had them refurbish and restock the two places. She had to admit Pelch had pointed out some good places to use. It seemed a shame to let them go to waste. They would make good safe houses.
She had put Fang's to work as well and he had recovered the Z street Americar which was abandoned and for sale at a Lone Star Auction and the van now repaired which Z Street had dumped at a local used car dealership. The dealer was glad to make a small profit. Fangs had removed the Z street tracers and now they were parked near the safe-houses ready to roll. Vehicles ready for use with new ID's and new papers. They also had Pelch's bike and Mao's stunt car and Fang's had been getting those checked out too. BB also had Fangs working on a new comsytem under her design. She would implant them surgically in each of the team later.
During the groups time in Z they had the opportunity to learn quite a few skills and to figure out what they needed to do on a job. Some had taken advantage of this, others had not. It seemed a shame not to continue to put this experience to good use to make some money. This time for themselves. Fangs wandered in as BB continued to set up a program.
"I checked out the cars and put them in protected parts of the safe houses. I also made sure that some cold weapons were well hidden in them as well as papers and disguises. Mao's old place already had protected parking but the Sinking Ship had a wide open garage. I found a better place a short walk away so we can still use the location. The Van is at Mao's old place. The Americar at the Ship. I went ahead and checked the Security and the work being done on the locations and they seemed to be doing a competent job. What has the field team reported?"
"They are being watched by the Star."
"Then that means 10,000 free NuYen from the pimp who's trying to set us up plus expenses. To bad they're too late. No way they can get those papers now that we severed connection with Mr. J. They're wasting their money. So how long do we wait before we take on new Biz?"
BB shrugged, "A month, maybe two. We all have the funds to handle that easily at this stage. It gives us a couple of months for training, re outfitting, making new contacts, lining up jobs and for the Star to decide that nothing is happening. It costs large NuYen to make all this surveillance on suspect testimony and the bean counters at the Star are going to want to see tangible results. If they don't the higher ups will shut the Star surveillance team down. Then it's back to business, our business."
"So we're going to stay in business and not just go legit?"
BB smiled, "Of course. You think we plan to waste these skills? We're going to do what we kept telling the Z leadership what we should've been doing. We're going to train. We're going to add some new skills, new devices and some contingency plans so when we have to change tracks in a run we all have a clue what happened. Most of all though when we go into a job we're going to have a plan and we're going to be focused because it's going to be our bottom line not the Z's."
Fangs sat down after pouring his very ugly drink of what looked like blood. "What about Quick? Does he get a chance to join? What about Wheels or Headcrack? Freddy? Widow?"
"Let's make this clear Headcrack and Quick as far as we know are working for Z. They are going to have to CONVINCE us they made a break and they are going to have to reapply for a job if they want to work with us. It's a new group. Let's face it we were fired weeks ago but neither has let out a peep so we wait for them to decide, otherwise they are on their own and they will have to continue to work from that point they are on now. Just to clue you though Quicks very dead body was found in an ally. It wasn't pretty. The rats had been at it. He had a dead cops gun near him. Star closed the case already as just another street killing of a cop killer. Quick is a mage though he has options but first he is going to have to get in touch."
"Wheels was aligned with Quick and went on his own. If he wants in all he has to do is show up and make the payments he owes the team for work we already did on his behalf. If he does that then he has a place, he earned it. Headcrack is another story. None of us trust him. Sure he's good but we have some issues. He is going to have to be real convincing if we take him back. Too much bad blood there."
"Freddy and Widow? If they keep playing with Z Street, no. We will consider doing some runs for them but only if we think they are being square with us. After all in Freddies business surely he would like to see some improvement in his botton line or possibly fend off a hostile takeover. As far as hiring them at this stage? I think not. Freddy is more likely to hire us with his cash than we are to hire him. He's rich enough that maybe he needs to get into the fixer rackets and broker teams rather than running WITH teams. Widow didn't show us anything novel as a Street Warrior, either. She hasn't shown us the kind of involvement, adaptability, versatility and GROWTH we need on this team."
Fangs nodded, "Then let's have a party to celebrate the end of a successful run. Pelch and Mao will be back soon from their shopping trip and day out. Maybe Pelch will even give us a gift."
BB looked at Fang's with a bright smile. "Maybe in your dreams, creature of the night." They both laughed.

Characters Sheets will be updated BEFORE the next scenario begins. So you guys that have admin rights in here? Don't START a new thread! I'll begin it when I am ready. If you wish to purchase new skills or equipment with what you earned send me a PM and I will consider it.
"Special message for Quick. I have not finished with your character, I can and will do more as I promised. He is though in LIMBO and you HAVE to show an interest here or I'm going to complete the character with what I think you need or KILL IT out if you don't show any interest or input at all. You are warned. In any event, you might want to start getting your new character sheet changed to a mage and getting it out on the site so I can update it as a mage before we start the next scenario. To give you a road-map clue; In the mage arts possession of a new body not your own can happen and in my game? Possession is 9/10ths of the law.

Widow - OK it is not proof - I agree it is all conjecture - but so is most of what we do.
It was never my intent to follow this further - I was going to give what we have got to Pelch as a good will gesture - but now that the charges are dropped and everyone seems like they are backing off - now seems like a good time for us to drop off the active radar.
I havnt seen Meg for an age - I got places to go and things to do that Control stopped me from doing and an awful lot to catch up on. Theres a lot of training I want to get done - You said I am a Jack - you are right, I need to get back to my roots.
Maybe it is a good place for a time-out Widow..
Remember We have been linking Pelch and Mao to the setup We found tenuous links to Pelch and Mao being there Nothing of any further importance No other names We have dropped this because there is no real evidence..
His eyes seemed very intense, crisp and clear..
Yes I know - dont stare at me like that - it gives me the creeps. I got a lot to catch up on too.. Give me a call if you come across Quick - or there's any juicy biz in the pipe... I'll see you around..
Widow mounted her bike an drove off leaving Freddy with a lot to catch up on - one thing he felt good about was that now there was only himself who could make a link from Mao to Cpt Krunch and he wasnt going anywhere with that - it might well save her life not remembering anything -
