I'd like to play a run or two as an army unit going into the city for recon and stuff .

you would need a specialist unit with a few awakened members - Knight errant style, The bugs had lots of 'fleshy ones' bug spirits in host bodies - have a look in the Magic in the Shadows. The forces would know about the bug capabilities from earlier covert strikes in other cities.. and a tac nuke has just gone off..... lead boxers all round..

Maybe one of the characters could be an ex-Universal Brotherhood member that turned down the 'final enlightenment'... Ref. 7205 - Universal Brotherhood. Upon reading what was posted on the net he decided the UB was wrong and he wanted to get some revenge. Of course this wouldn't be the mission but it could make for an interesting NPC/PC and a good resource for insight into insect totems

There is an indication in Magic in the shadows that there has to be a shaman to channel the spirit force, a queen to rule the hive - both vying for control.. the limiting factor is the amount of true flesh merges, where the insect spirit merges perfectly with the host - man body insect spirit - around 20-30 of these perfect forms. There will be lots and lots of lesser fleshy ones, insect characteristics, chitin armour extra limbs... down to failures where the host dies and the spirit does not merge, leaving a spirit insect buzzing around..
Theres a lot of spirits in a hive, that can manifest...
the true merges often entice professionals in so a superior merge can take place, lots of squaddies with weapons training, and a powerful spirit merged in..yik

I think that the scale would be much bigger. For example, in the Seattle UB headquarters (The Octagon) there were ants, wasps, termites, and more all living together with several queens. One queen produces 20-30 larvae every cycle... and this is one building. Chicago has been over run for years now so you could imagine the mathematical implications for flesh forms. I'm sure the Queen cut the strings a long time ago, leaving a lot of insane or dead insect shamans.
One thing about the flesh forms, as I understand it the hosts have to be willing for the merge to be pure. In cases where the host is not willing the merge is bad, and the powers can be diminished. In the case of Chicago I would imagine that a lot of the hosts were not willing... They have a weakness to light as well which could be exploited. Not to mention your ordinary minigun...

I spoz t he shaman is like a drone - required, but not a working part of the hive. For playing purposes there ought to be a lin between shaman and queen which makes them more powerful together Queen Force x Shaman power, or just Queen force?
Ther will certainly be lone queens and her smaller hive around 50 - 100 bugs in various guises, but only a few of the true merges which seem so important. Maybe these merges are prototype shamen, or queens..
Insane , yesbut existing just for power in the hive higherarchy..? or to strike back against the vile human plague.. hwo knows how they think, but they will still weild power and magics.

Of course if there was to be a campaign for such a visit to a good ole Chicago the team would keep a low profile but be able to handle a single hives onslaught. Aren't there gangs and such still in the area even after the bomb? (Not sure if Fanpro put anything out after or if we can fill in the blanks) A lot of the physical incarnations of the bugs were destroyed, but like any other city - Chicago has a sewer and fall out shelters. When they built those UB buildings they built to last as well so I would say that there would be something to see there - and plenty of karma to earn. Would be challenging to put together... As far as the queen-shaman relationship goes, I envision a shaman with his own agenda like you said but once he is tricked into summoning a queen, he becomes nothing more than a (powerful) pawn vaguely aware of the real world, ultimately leading to self termination (extermination if you will, he he )... I like the idea of amplifying there power for gaming purposes if the shaman still exists in the hive and is working with queen.

A run along these lines doesn't necessarily have to go to bug city as the bugs have become integrated in the highest governments and corporations. Bugs could just be the spice, not the protagonist.

I Have a few ideas on how the storyline would go initially towards a lot of combat (leading to of course a conspiracy). Probably wouldn't be able to start it until 1st -2nd week of June but can start putting it together now. If anyone is intersted in GMing this and/or playing (I don't think I could run it by myself yet, still kind of rusty) feel free to email me ( orions1fire@yahoo.com) or respond to this post.

I'd like to play it . Not GM . But would you want runners or military types ? Feel I'd have to play because I started the thread I'd just use a slightly modified merc . From the SR2 book . Same cyber but skills would have to be reworked .
