well my only comment would be that when I read up on the car.. the EV-1 was never sold to anyone.. only leased, and when the lease ran out the vehicles were returned and eliminated with only a few destined to go to schools and museums
so if one is owned.. the question then would be by whom since GM never sold one... I would look into how many actually still exist in the world since anything of that rarity should be in a museum... now stealing the car will be a feat in itself since this car is the foundation for cars of the future... the car was given to schools and museums to further research into other alternatives of fuel... this is like stealing the airplane of the Wright Brothers... perhaps the Johnson is nothing more than a collector of rare artifacts... the mindset to proclaim you own one may perhaps "get him off" the technology is ancient and outdated... the thought that a school would still own one is rediculas... id start my search in big city museums.. possibly anywhere that a big GM company once was.. or find a technology museum (much like the Boston Museum of Science) the Johnson may be paying allot of money simply because this will not be an easy thing to steal.. and getting caught stealing it will scar the party's reputation for life

Much better Xtreme! Maybe you guys ARE as good as the Fatman hinted. A COLLECTOR? I never considered that but you know it makes a strange kind of sense. I just looked at the technological value not the intrinsic or historical worth. I think Krass already picked up on the museum angle so I think he might have already been following that lead as well. I wish the little toad had mentioned it in the meeting. When you look at it that way it makes it interesting. Definitely looks like a Fatman angle, make it so obvious no one sees it. Have to disagree on the subcontract to gutter punks though. The Collector would want it in top shape and those guys would be more likely to shoot holes in it getting it.

Hi GreatMilenko,
If the car is in a private collection or a museum, I suspect it would NOT be booby trapped that way. No one wants to have something like that on a vehicle on display. In a private collection it might be nasty getting too, but a museum should be much easier. We could even make back door deals with the officials or security so that it gets lost. OR we could use government and corporate connections to get a hold of it. Remember, as Drassel has pointed out constantly, corporations have more than one way of legally stealing things. ;D
Now the trick question guys. What IF the collector angle is supposed to be a red herring? Let's suggest the Fatman wants us to see that angle. What happens if my preliminary look was correct and the Johnson wants it for some nefarious purpose?
Here is one possibility I am entertaining. The engine, body and battery packs are fairly unique, what would be the affects if it was interfaced with a shadow runners neural gear especially through a rigger jack. Could it have an unusual affect on the runner or his gear or could the gear have a strange affect on the vehicle. The two together may do more than is obvious as a gestalt. It does use specialized software.
I suspect getting the car will not present a problem, but what affect will it have once investigated. Catch my point?

Hi Ronilion, Krass, Fatman and Eon... it's great to meet you guys... I love reading your stuff It comes with traction control, cruise control, anti-lock brakes, airbags, power windows, power door locks and power outside mirrors, AM/FM CD/cassette, tire inflation monitor system. The vehicle also offers programmable climate control, an electric windshield defogger/deicer, a rear window defogger, and center-mounted instrumentation. The EV1 does not require a conventional key to unlock the door. A five-digit personal identification code is entered on the exterior keypad to allow access. No key is needed to start the car. The same five-digit code is entered on the center console's keypad to activate the car. I see 2 more possibilities... 1: most keyless entry systems are regulated by the company, meaning GM would have a record of anyones keycodes that are still in effect, in case someone forgets it, loses it, wants to change it, or dies... a good decker could probably pull that up... I can't imagine they'd protect that with red IC... Idea #2: It's a longshot... Carfax would have records if any modifications were made to the vehicle... especially if it was an electronic adjustment as they maintain the vehicles resell values quite accurately. If any repairs or modifications were made to the elaborate electronic system, they would have a repair report for consumers (provided they're still in business... maybe a decker might get lucky) If worst came to worst, vehicles must be run periodically to prevent engine seizures, tire deflating, and shocks rusting... perhaps a check on motor vehicle reports (car registration) dating back to 2007 (2 yrs after recall) specifically on the EV1 would turn up something...It was still federal law that any vehicle that would be driven on streets would need to be registered and inspected. So perhaps a decker with a little time on his hands could cross reference any owners to their registration reports... if that doesn't work, theres always a bank list of all people that GM paid the recall fee to. Think it's possible the dealer could've ever driven himself into a deadzone and need a tow? That may have made the local newspaper...

so the records for the car were lost... but someone knew enough about it to know what the 2000 engine could possibly do to 2060 technology? I would think knowing that they would be able to design it again... if they could do that.. then why steal a car for its engine... also heres another thought... the Johnson said money was no object.. then why not just purchase the car secretly... every man has his price and if we still cant find bin laden im sure that a sale like that could be done very quietly.. and if they dont wanna sell.. make em wanna sell
man you guys really get deep on this... id really like to hear more about whats goin on with that... sounds like an interesting run

There's no patent, go got the motor, you got the patent, you got the monopol for the technology at least 20 years, think of the Nuyen, and with 2060 tech, you could make it better, and why not make a automobile revolution, all the big car company could close, making the path clear for Johnson and cie. to rule over the auto world.
Not to mention making Johnson and cie. completely clean for a theft of the tech from another party, runners get heat, Johnson gets a laugh

once again... how would they know that the motor would perform like that.. unless someone knew enough about the motor to be able to possibly create a replicaor.. once again... why not buy the car if moneys no object.. keep it secret.. and if he was to follow your path of thought braddoc ( tho I dont really see the Johnson wanting to do this) by the time he became a supercorp.. who would be able to stop him less car if he had puchased the car or had it stolen oh and thank you

Yeah, but the Johnson could be from some mega corp, or a big one, hey Renaku doens't make car engines, ARES do some military grade stuff, but no civilian, wide-spead sales cars or trucks
Hey just adding another member to the happy corp family. And all those AA car company megacorp (Nissan, Ford, Renault....) maybe want to get up in the Corporate food chain, and that's a pretty "easy" way for them go get up a bit.

Nice work Guys, Great Milenko, I've already been there on most of this but wanted to see if you guys would catch it as well. I've already confirmed that there is no I.C.E. on the car. It does have some Passive Security features but nothing even a poor decker couldn't weasel through. I imagine the iconology is pretty archaic in there from what my research has shown. As far as the CAR FAX idea, the Fatman laughed with glee and stated that CAR FAX went bottom up long before the computer crash. The bastard thinks this is all funny which means he has something nasty planned and is enjoying us floundering around. He has admitted though that we are farther along than he expected us to be at this point. We are eliminating things fast. I did discover a car at the Smithsonian but it was gutted out and is not a full working and complete model. The Fatboy was waiting for us to go after it without checking. He admits we sidestepped that. I did locate another possibility but haven't confirmed it yet. A private collector has one. Finally Ronilion pointed out that an 'electric car' is not much prone to seizures. It does need some mechanical work but nothing like a normal vehicle. One of the big points of this vehicle was that it did require very LITTLE maintenance. As far as federal law given the typical SR universe I think most people would laugh at that especially at the corp level. I know our corp. does. Hey Xtereme, Chummer, your getting the stuff almost as soon as we do. At least the stuff each player is putting out in public. Each player usually hold some of our Research back for obvious reasons. The Fatman is always deep into this. He makes you work for your win and uses a nice mix of fantasy and real world research. As for the Johnson, that is exactly what is bothering half the group. They keep pointing out that this Johnson was already ahead of us on this and with unlimited NuYen he could have easily done everything we are doing without leaving a trail. That means either he has hit a stone wall and only we can do what he wants or he is setting us up. The group smells a rat and is leaning toward the second opinion. Drassel though had this thought, what if the Johnson found an old report, one buried deep in a file but not particularly securely. Like an old tech report lost for a long time and put two and two together? He may be acting on his own. Drassel suspects we may be stiffed on the final fee. He is pursuing that angle right now. No one wants to be stiffed. The problem is that this creates a whole second Shadow run. We can NOT be seen to violate our policy of customer protection! That means we have to carefully subcontract the investigation of the client and have to INSURE that no one discovers we ARE investigating him and why. Bet you hadn't considered that aspect, but the Fatguy made it clear in his post. Remember Eon's question? The Fatguy makes those posts and puts those roadblocks in you better be careful going around them.

Yeah, but the Johnson could be from some mega corp the sale could easily go to Bob Smith in the Ukraine... if the Johnson wanted it to be private it would.. no one would ever know... then again it makes you kinda wonder bought the crowd he hangs with... if he were a collector who would he show it to? it would have to be a very small circle cause if word ever leaked and that car was "stolen" from a museum (or wherever the fat man has this car) what would the Johnson do then? it a bad scenario all together.. personally id be shopping for another contract someones gonna get it good and I dont think Johnson wants it to be him.... gawd I hope you guys take it though... this is getting really interesting ;D

but then once again... for him to know that this particular engine does stuff to 2060 tech would mean that someones been doing homework on it.. and if they did homework then theyed have to know what made it tick in order for them to know what it does... did that make any sence?

my biggest question through any scenario that anyone may invent... is.. why cant he buy it? if I had a say over one of these cars where ever it may be.. and someone walks up and says..ill give you a hundred mill for the car"... the pink slip would be in his hand before he fished.. so what is it about this car that makes it unpurchaceable... ( you could even get a Museum to sell you the Write Brothers plane.. if you know how to play the system correctly) so... why cant he buy it? I know im beating a dead horse.. but moneys no object.. yet cant buy the car... and how in the hell did I just post 3 times?

If he buys it from the Museum, it's bound to get noticed, and if it hits the news, everyone will know, not very anonimous, whatever his motive to get a hand on that car, or the engine.
3 posts? It's because you use quotes I'll wager.

Chummer,
You raise some good points but I think I have some answers. Try this scenario on for size and see if it fits.
Our Johnson is a mid to high level corporate exec. He is NOT a big player in the corp world but has access to corp funds and has a boring job that is not closely monitored. Dr Patterson offered this comment. What if he works at a MEDICAL facility like say Doc Wagon or Crashcart? Now one day he is approving an expenditure when he really notices a strange Medical report.? A low level drone who made the report wouldn't have the imagination but he does and sees the chance to make a score! Now say this medical report deals with someone (A VERY RICH AND VERY PRIVATE COLLECTOR) who has had a very strange reaction to something in EV1 tech. This excites him and he wants to get hold of the car. However, he hasn't got the JUICE to leverage the collector and he certainly doesn't WANT to be seen by his bosses or anyone else. He needs someone with muscle! He goes to Krass/Drassel and uses his corp account to pass the preliminary screening. The money is good so Drassel takes the case. Johnson figures by the time anyone figures out what is happening he will have the car and everything will lead back to Krass/Drassel and we shouldn't talk until we finally get stiffed or he pays off and screws his own corp and runs. His corp is pissed at ours and he slips away in the firefight? Starting to make sense.
As for beating this. I want this one BAD!

Hi Braddoc,
We think we are on pretty solid ground at the moment. We suspect that the Johnson is not going to use the car as a car! I think Ronilion is dead on. The car has a strange effect on people using a neural interface. It may even be only a specific type of interface made by a specific company. We think a Private Collector is involved but only as a remote instance. Eon will be on later with her Research. When we are sure we have it scoped then we move.
