Freddy had a way of disguising his magical aura - now he needed a new ID - Widow too..
He put a message through to control - she or one of her myriad of minions would pick it up.. We need new ID - my SIN will be recognised an Widow will need some convincing background details.
I think that it would be a good idea to have some kind of multiprofile as each identity is used another will be required - so setting up one good one would be redundant pretty soon and will have to be dropped. Can you get your team on this for both of us - and the ability to easily null the SIN implant as well.
If we are going to be the 'Face' operatives we need a whole bagfull of watertight credentials. I have spoken to one of my connections who assures me that two weeks worth of history will be investigated where an agent of the state is compromised. We would like to get away without his knowledge obviously - how fast do you want the information?
He will undoubtedly have a trid to determine who we are - linked to the city SIN dbase, I can't use magic to adjust myself - and his trid will pick up the 24 facepoints unless we have a falseface and are well physically disguised. I can do this but it will be upclose work and could be spotted by a laywer with an eye for detail..
We will need a disguised magnometer - if the guy has a steel safe- and it would have to be some steel alloy - then either of us could use a magdetect to search the room while the other keeps the laywer interested in our potential marraige settlement. Inside a cane or an umberella would be good we could trace wiring if up real close to it so we could scan the floor get up close to the walls too and prod the desk too.. yeah a brolly eccentric...
I expect him to have bugscanners in operation and a variety of other scanners too - but a mag detector would only register as much as our cyberware an so should pass any active security easily.
They had their orders - do the recon for a burgulary - Freddy suspected that control was again forcing them outside of their comfort zone.. no violence no magic made it tough on both of them frustrating too.
He had a check for office space being available in the place - an ideal way to scope out general security and a legit method of being there late too.. beats going in as graveyard shift tecchies - again.
After the two days the tech team had come up trumps linking a male and a female into the city DB had been no major problem for them but to create a changable profile was too much.. what they attempted were ten profiles with interchangable titles - they got the idea from the revolving numberplates from the banned Bond film - revolve the titles and match them into dead people - all it took was a trid call to adjust a linkage into the city db
for any ordinary hacker this would have been a major udertaking - problem was that if someone dug too far they would find twenty profiles which would open up half a dozen squealer programmes.. but the ID's would have then been compromised once these were breached. They used twenty of their own prepared profiles on each. More could be created next year,
Sounded fine to Freddy and Widow who had swift adjustments made to their SIN bumps sub-wrist.

Pelch, freshly cleaned and pressed in his suit walked out where Freddy was still talking away to himself. Widow was just beginning to wake up. Mao hoping for breakfast followed Pelch calmly and nodded to the other team, just being friendly.
Pelch stopped for a moment only, shook his head in amusement, and then resumed walking as he spoke to Freddy, "Hey Snake, can we change your name to Oedipus for this job?" Freddy thought for a moment and then glared. Mao looked at Pelch curiously. "Why Oedipus? Will it help him on the next job?" Freddy looked at Mao in disgust. Widow looked confused.
Pelch smiled at Mao enjoying the snakes reaction. Sometimes the kid was a great straight man, asking just the right question at just the right time. "Widow could even become Madre Oedipus. Bound to help them on the next job, partner. Everyone will know just what kind of a stand-up guy he is and what kind or fine upstanding model of womanhood she is." Then Pelch said softly to Freddy, "Right Madre-fragger?" Freddy considered all the possibilities of a fireball enema as a motivator of respect. It would probably be a waste of manna. Some things are just too stupid to learn.
Pelch went over to the breakfast area, smiling, and made Mao start handing him items from the shelves to fix while he pulled over a chair to the stove. Mao remarked blandly, "That doesn't look like dumplings or tea."
"Hey, you're a genius. Anyone ever tell you that? Nothing gets by you. You get an omelet, toast, and milk and then we plan our part of Pig-boy's grand master plan over breakfast. Our part is easy. We wait till the guard shows up for work and then follow him home. During the tail we can find a good place to ambush him later." Pelch threw some ersatz soy bacon in the pan. Mao grimaced in pain at the grease level. Pelch started mixing eggs and milk.
"The next day we set the ambush and you beat the drek out of guard-man, without him seeing you. I spray paint some local gang graffiti and rip him off. Then we call Lone Star to come pick him up. We bring the drek back here and give it to Pig-face. That ends phase one for us. Then we just wait to make sure the Tonfatart and Snakeshite can actually find their way OUT of the building without sending in the boy-scouts. That will be the hard part because the 'elite duo' probably will not even show up in the first place, if they follow their usual routine. Then we'll have to wing it and go in and do their part for them to cover their fragging hoops." Pelch added some cheese and started to cook the omelet.
"Equipment for this job will be easy. All I need is a can of spray paint and a couple of local gang stencils. The only thing you have to remember is don't kill the guard and don't let him see us. Even for you that should be easy.
Freddy had been listening from across the room. He continued to stare at Pelch but said nothing. Widow less restrained spoke up in a smooth amused tone. "Better have them mark the stencils carefully, love. Knowing you, the gang sign could end up sideways or even upside down or mirror imaged if you get the wrong side out. The odds of that would be pretty high and for you? Almost a certainty." Widow looked at her highly polished nails ignoring Pelch as if he was dogdrek.
"Isn't it nice when they made the plan that we got the really difficult and subtle part while you got the really simple-minded head-bashing stuff that any Bruno on the street could do for a few coppers? I guess they assigned the jobs according to IQ."
Pelch grumbled. "I know what gang signs look like you stupid tart."
Widow smiled, "Well I hope you're correct but rumor has it that you don't even know what your mother looks like but I'll bet she hated flea and tick collars. So in the interest of team support, love and kindness I'll show you the same confidence and courtesy you've shown us this morning by saying I know how to get into and out of buildings without the dubious help of the fragging ignorant half-pint brigade." She stood up and stretched in her tight dress, showing off.
"While you're busy mucking up your job try not to screw our part of it up to get out from under. Then when the drek hits the fan don't lay the resulting explosion off on the rest of us. That would make for a refreshing change of pace. As an addendum if we don't make it in or out, do us all a favor and don't go riding in like Sir Galahad on a razorback, tilting at windmills, and generally queering the pitch for everyone else with the usual Pelch style. The fallout for that KIND of mistake will be a lot less. We really don't need your special kind of help. If you feel the urge to play good Samaritan, try placing your fat head between your fat buttocks and getting a breath of fresh air. It will be less painful for you than you running around doing what you call thinking."
After a night of decking, Headcrack walked out to check in with the team as Pelch consider throwing the hot grease laden pan at the Widow. It was going to be another day in the Z Street neighborhood.

"Why don't you fragger's just lay off? And Pelch, make some of that for me too. I'm famished." HeadCrack pulled up a chair to the table as Pelch went back to cooking, but not before the halfer shot another hate filled look at Widow. "Widow, you should lay off him as well. On this jog its time to put your differences aside. Otherwise, I might talk to Control about sending you back to Vankler's to work in one of his back rooms to 'get some more experience'." Widow scowled at this and muttered something in Pelch's direction. It might have been an apology....
HeadCrack leaned back as Pelch brought him a plate of eggs with toast. "Thanks Chummer." He took a couple of large bites, and talked around the eggs. "Alright, Freddy and Widow, you're IDs are pretty much set up. You'll need to pick names for yourselves, as I Hate doing that. But otherwise, they'll stand up to a pretty good inspection, if I do say so myself. When do you two plan to go in?" HeadCrack took a couple more bites as Freddy and Widow confered.
"Mao, I'll need the guard's card and what not as soon as you get it, so that we can get you set up. I managed to hack the security company and made myself a back door, but I'll have to edit the ID pretty much the second it's being scanned for when you go there for the first night. Shouldn't be a problem, but, don't let the guard see you...I'm sure you'll be able to handle it."
"While you are all here, do any of you remember anything else about possibly where BB might have gone? I kno this lawyer is possibly a way to link to her, but I don't want to have to rely on just one method of finding her. There hasn't been much trace of her on the matrix, which means she has either changed her M.O. or, more likely is lying REALLY low. She was supposed to reestablish contact with here once she got settled wasn't she Freddy? I thought I saw something about that in the security logs from about 3 weeks ago."
Head Crack turned to Pelch, and took a drink of milk. "Pelcho, you're a half decent cook, so long as you stay away from the traquilizers..." Pelch grinned around a piece of toast, and Mao got a little smile on his face.....

Mao smiled. Some people NEVER learn. You would think that Headcrack would know that a position of authority like a badge, didn't stop people from wanting to make your life miserable. It was just a target. Having been poisoned by Pelch once, it would appear he now figured he was immune. Pelch though was an opportunist and Mao just knew Pelch saw opportunity knocking. He had watched as Headcrack came in and told Pelch to fix breakfast, like the dwarf was suddenly the camp hoop boy. Given that Pelch was already angry it was the WRONG thing to do.
Mao had noted the look of anger on Pelch's face and then the sudden crafty look quickly hidden by the normal Pelch bland expression. He could almost follow the racing thoughts of the dwarf and he was not surprised or disappointed. Headcrack never noticed.
Pelch had blandly continued on cooking saying nothing. Pelch waited till the orc was distracted with Widow. Mao watched from behind the counter as Pelch, using the sleight of hand tricks he had mastered, slyly took out a small packet of white powder out of his utility belt where he kept his tools and placed it in the orc's milk! Pelch then carefully burnt the wrapper until only ashes remained. Mao made sure he was standing deliberately in the line of the Sec Camera in the area. The logs and interior surveillance would not pick any of this up either.
There would be no telltale evidence. Mao saw what was written on the packet before Pelch disposed of the paper and ashes down the drain. The package read:
"Warning: Maximum dose Viagra 7 guaranteed to last 12 hours. Not safe for children. Store in a cool dry place. "
Mao figured it would take roughly an hour for the dose to take affect and then Headcrack was going to have to pee standing on his hands. How do you run with a fishing pole in your pants? He idly wondered if he should warn Widow to be elsewhere in that time frame. He decided he would and Freddy too. It made sense. They had all been messed around by Z Street, it was them against the bosses, but in their campaign of terror it would do well to remember not to get caught and to continue the insults a bit so it wouldn't look too queer.
Mao had nothing against the Widow outside of the fact she used to call him kid. Freddy had never been a problem to him except where the other team seemed to rub Pelch the wrong way. Then again, everyone rubbed Pelch the wrong way. It was who he was. Besides, Mao mused, it would be more amusing if Headcrack was briefing the Control when things came to a head-crack, so to speak.
While Pelch continued cooking he let the powder slowly dissolve completely. As the orc finished he handed him the plate and glass and waited. The orc finally ran down on Widow. Head Crack turned to Pelch, and took a drink of milk. "Pelcho, you're a half decent cook, so long as you stay away from the traquilizers..." Pelch grinned around a piece of toast, and Mao got a little smile on his face..... he knew why Pelch was smiling. Mao considered warning the orc and decided not too. He didn't think Pelch was actually going to kill the orc, but one just never knew. The Beast watched with some amusement.
Pelch spoke up in normal voice as he finished up his food. He took ALL the plates and cups from the team including Headcrack's empty dishes and placed them in the washer. Mao noted the milk glass was empty and he saw no traces of the powder in the cup. The orc had drank the whole dose. Mao looked at his watch. Countdown to liftoff. The washer started humming doing a heavy brush cycle with plenty of soap.
No one would be able to find any remains of the powder that way either.
"Why ask us about BB? Neither I nor Mao were here when she did her fade into the Shadows. Word I got from rumor control is that she said she would be back when the coast cleared. Seeing as you were the joker after her, maybe she don't think the coast is clear from where she is. Like us she may be working on old data. The last one to see her was Fang's. You saw his answers to the Control. I think you're beating a dead devil rat with that question." Pelch finished as if puzzled.
Pelch continued as if he suddenly had an idea, "You going to be O-Kay with Mao and I going out and tailing the Security guard today? We need to get a pattern on where he goes and what he does so we know when and where to take him out quietly. As Widow pointed out to me earlier, both her and Freddy have the hardest part and I expect you'll want to go over with them on their plan so you can explain it to the Control. That meeting probably isn't to far in the future so you might want to prepare. Our part of the plan at this stage is pretty straight forward until we get more info so you shouldn't need us today. We'll be back after the guard goes home." Headcrack thought about it.
"No one goes out. You seem to forget that the plan has to be approved by the Control before we start mucking around in any of it. I'm glad to see you so eager to get on with the job but the answer has to be 'no' until the plan is made, approved, and everyone knows exactly who is doing what and when so we don't as Widow mentioned, 'queer the pitch' for everyone else."
"Don't worry, you'll have time to get the guards pattern down. Matter of fact, why not make it part of our plan for the Control to use some of her people to put surveillance on the guard now? They can get his patterns and habits down cold without you guys even showing your faces. Later, you can go prepare the location and wait. Less chance of you tripping up by being seen." Pelch nodded in agreement. "Yeah, that makes sense. Then I guess Mao and I will just lay about and catch some holo till you need us. Seems a shame to waste this new suit doing nothing, but that's the breaks. C'mon Mao maybe we can find a good movie like Debbie does Zurich Orbital, Part II." Mao and Pelch walked away.
Headcrack made a note of the idea and added it to the plan he would send to Control to approve. He turned to Freddy and Widow. "Freddy, as leader of your team we know you and Widow are going in for a look see. Fangs is working on an Americar for you. It will have a security system and a couple of extra features, just in case. I already have your ID's ready and have reserved a parking space. Your appointment is ready to go. You'll be going to talk about the legalities of adopting a child. Headcrack smiled at the looks on their faces.
"This way you don't have to commit to signing anything right away. We can milk this for at least a couple of visits in case one isn't enough. Comm units, paperwork, clothing, and devices are being prepared. However, the part that worries me is that Freddy is pretty vague on how he plans to fool any magical security. I suspect he intends to mask his aura but that is not always successful. If he carries magical devices or uses even a cantrip they may be all over you. A spell focus could spell trouble as well. So what exactly are you going to do magically? While you're explaining remember to make it easy to understand so we all know." Headcrack looked at Freddy expectantly.

Yeah I need to check with a couple of control's mages - what I am looking at doing should fool a standard mage - I will need a lot more time before I can hoodwink anyone powerful though... I believe. Just how is up to me an if it works then I will need some downtime to improve in other areas too. COntrol wants to get us thinking outside of our own areas of expertise, to broaden our abilities, yet concentrate on the job.
Put it this way - if I can pull this off then I will be pretty chuffed, an deserve the heavy bonus..
Two off-duty guards two dummies Widow an Freddy all stood with plas-macs draped over them - hoods up, facing away from the two mages who came in - Freddy had removed his focii putting them onto the table
you get a month's wages bonus if you pick out the mage..
erm, two are inert objects one is Jack from upstairs so I guess the thin one has to be the mage.. Nah it's a trick - none are mages and the rest of the room is clear of astral apart from the two focusses on the table
The presence of focii indicates a mage though the auras of the four are are male human cybered, female elven cybered, human cyber male and another human cybered male yeah Jack from upstairs.. no influence of magic. Though if I were to conduct a three hour study I could gain a lot more. I concurr, no mage present.
The four turned and walked towards the two mages - pulling off the hot ponchos -
that's Widow and Fredericks and he is the mage - and I claim my cash!
am I really the mage? do you think this disguise would fool most people? Freddy spoke up and passed some idle chatter with the two mages
OK so you are not awakened but the disguise is excellent, thin and weedy with snake motifs ... but you wouldnt fool a mage because you do not have the aura of the awakened...
the two mages, their jobs done, exited concerned about their potential bonus.
They are right, I dont think it will stand up to long term indepth analysys or a punch to the throat - but it should pass a reasonable standard check.. as for what it is - think of it as camouflage - losing my true image - I am happy that it works so well. It does mean that I cannot have any magical effects maintained while I slip into the offices with Widow. So the laywers place is a go as soon as you like.
Regarding BB - If I was her I would think about contacting one of the origional team to find out what the score is here.. She will be able to gather just so much through the matrix and will need to know what she is getting herself into IF she decides to come back. There are a lot of lucrative deals out there in the shadows. Why would she want to get ensnared by a big mean corporation?
I suspect that there will be cash links to her as well as intel on the fixer when we copy the laywer's stash
He had liked BB an hoped that she had learnt enough to get far away - maybe sell her device to the Star or a host of other enforcement agencies - at least it may stop them from torturing people for information, wouldnt stop them torturing for fun...
Freddy had always had an ability to be difficult to get a locate on - in college some detections came up blank on him like he was hard to see in the astral - put down to the caster's inexperience. After channelling Snake through him this ability had been magnified. Astral chameleon had become an astral camouflage taking the eye of the beholder away from the standard 'I am awakened' patterning in his aura to the aura of 'ordinary'... It occurred to him that with more practice and insight - getting closer to Snake could potentially break up his astral and even physical patterning...
more time - more insight - more essence expended through ceremonies and tequila binges to get closer to Snake. He had a lot to discuss with Meg once she got back in a couple of weeks

To answer your question I will display or carry no magic at all - and yeah it has been difficult to do - however this will only fool a standard street or corp mage not one who has access to deeper understanding. Given the time - that is the road for me to travel.
Meantime we got an appointment to try this out What do you think Widow?
She came back dressed in a retro 30's royal blue skirt-suit (thats the 20-30s ..) and blue leather attache case - Freddy dressed quickly into matching bib and braces plus bolero jacket cut in color-tone (the adjustable mood tint for the busy exec..) They made - quite a pair
Well someone aint goin to get lost in a hurry HAW HAW cracked Pelch - the guy had an ability to spot a sore point at a hundred meters
We expect to be astrally checked, take a magscan too for hardware - there should be a steyr TMP arriving soon from requisitions a machine pistol for me, and Widow is taking one of the Tiffany holdouts along with a pair of WW Infiltrators in the case. We can declare the obvious guns. This guy is a lawyer and any checks fancier than that would be impossible to conduct business. We both got cyberware minicomps an other pieces of elec kit - again if they want to mess with these then we just say no and offski. The umbrella I can use to poke at things around the room - and get the short range scanner to pick up any metal and wiring Me an Widow can both carry a conceal cam to trid the place
Is Mao an Pelch chauffeuring us? theyre dressed the part - or are they in mourning? Actually this getup of mine is appalling though I do say that Widow is resplendant - I note the tailoring is a little on the heavy side, a formfitting protection - and I would hazzard a guess to say the pencil skirt has rippystrips to the sides to allow a high kick..~?
Headcrack answered with a stomch gurgle to attract everyone's attention...
Down Boy! Let's get this charade over with - Headcrack we have the gear and the wheels just get on the blower and clear it with control willya quipped Widow and everyone smiled - first time for everything !

"Approval has already been given. I spoke with Control, just before I came to talk with you." Head Crack noted down the names that Freddy and Widow were going in under and stood up, his tummy gurgling loudly again. He got a funny look on his face, like something he ate didn't agree with him, but he continued what he was going to say. "It won't take me but a moment to finish up your ID's, so, get your gear together, and get into character. Mao and Pelch will NOT be driving you. Transportation has already been taken care of and there is a car out in the garage waiting for you. Mao, I believe Fangs has refurbished that van you managed to destroy out in Yakima. That will be your tail vehicle."
Head Crack started walking towards the security room and when his stomach gurgled this time, it didn't stop with his stomach. The stream of vomit that came out of his mouth managed to plaster Pelch square in the forehead as the halfer was about to take a drink from his post breakfast beer. The thought What he is doing drinking a beer at this time of the morning is beyond me... went through HeadCrack's mind as he heaved a second time, and Pelch started to move to try and avoid the second burst. Mao, having avoided the initial flow, back-rolled over the couch where he was sitting to a standing position out of the direct line of fire. Pelch was not as quick, the look of shock on his face from being vomitted on plain for everyone to see. He was only halfways over the couch when the second burst of partially masticated eggs, toast and milk plastered him in the middle of his back and down his pants....Head Crack heaved once or twice more, but nothing else seemed to remain in his stomach. He wiped his mouth and wrapped his arms around his stomach, in obvious pain.
"Sorry chummer..." he murmured over his shoulder as he headed for the bathroom at a hobble, bent over at the waist and groaning in agony....

OOC: Pelch, "First time I ever heard of that kind of reaction to a sexual enhancement drug. (Snicker) I guess the guy is allergic. This just gets better and better. Think of all the reactions we can put him through. On with the show!"
************************************
Pelch dropped the bottle and went over to help his good buddy Headcrack, concern on his rough features. He put his shoulder under the orc's arm and helped him toward the bathroom as everyone watched. "You're not looking so good Buddy," Pelch commented sadly to the orc, "let's get you to the bogs. You probably tried to eat too fast or you've come down with the flu. Bad Luck on your part. I guess Freddy and Widow will have to take charge again. Good thing Control approved the plan in advance. To bad we don't have BB around but Mao knows some Chinese medicine I'll get him when we get you feeling a little better and into a nice soft bed."
Pelch helped Headcrack into the bogs and started to help the orc out of his clothes. He started the shower and dumped the orc into it, gently. He gathered up the orc's stuff turned and stuck his head through the door and yelled out to Mao. "MAO! Get your lazy hoop in here and bring your herbs and needles! Acupuncture will be just the thing to set our leader right." Pelch looked at the orc as he barfed in the shower again. He nodded in satisfaction. "That's the ticket. Just what you need. I guess breakfast didn't agree with you but don't worry we'll soon set you right. You just wait here while I get out of these things and get cleaned up."
Mao walked in carrying a wooden case and a small pouch. He adjusted his hat and looked at Pelch blandly. "You want to do this or should I?" Pelch looked at Mao with some satisfaction. "I have to get cleaned up. When you get the bad food out of him I suggest you give him some medicine and see if you can relieve the blockages. I'll check on your work when I get out of this mess. Luckily I'm used to things like this happening to me. Keep an eye on him, I'll be back after I get cleaned up and report to Freddy so he can report to Control." Pelch walked out the door with the orcs stuff, smiling.
Mao looked at Headcrack who seemed to be recovering. somewhat, but still looked weak and pale. He handed the orc a towel and then a robe and helped him into the medical room. Once he had him safely in one of the Medical beds Mao began to work. He touched several pressure points and then took out a bowl and poured some strange smelling oil in it from a flask. Headcrack watched as Mao set the bowl on fire.
Mao was fast. Headcrack was surprised and stunned. Mao placed his hand in the fire and lifted some of the oil into a cup and slammed the cup into the orc's chest. It was done so fast the cup was suctioned to the orc's chest. Headcrack could smell hair burning. Even as the pain hit Mao did this with two more cups! Headcrack howling in pain tried to remove one of the burning cups but Mao slapped his hand aside. Mao again placed his hand in the fire and covered his hand in flaming oil and began to vigorously rub the orc's chest, back and sides with the flaming hot oil!
Hair burned. Headcrack howled more in surprise than pain. Headcrack was sure the pain would come later. He tried to avoid Mao but Mao, unsurprised by the reaction, had no trouble continuing his procedure. Suddenly Mao took his flaming fingers and poked Headcrack in several places and then quickly pulled the cups off the orcs chest. Headcrack looked for something to hit Mao with and then he looked for his gun. Nothing was readily available. Mao smiled calmly.
Headcrack stopped hunting for a weapon and looked at Mao warily. Then a look of surprise crossed his face. He didn't feel sick anymore! While his skin was reddened and he was slightly bruised, the stomach cramps were gone and he didn't feel the least bit like throwing up.
"Thanks Mao, I feel much better now." Headcrack stated still surprised.
Mao shook his head sadly, "I've relieved your breathing problem and took care of the stomach cramps but you will need more treatment and some medicine. He looked down pointedly. Headcrack's robe was pushed out. Headcrack became aware of an uncomfortable constricted feeling in his joy department. Mao took out his wooden case and opened it. He held up a large gleaming needle and looked at Headcrack like he was a bug about to be pinned to a board. Mao smiled.
Widow and Freddy had watched Pelch come out and clean up the room and then go to get changed. Yells and screams came from the medical room then stopped. Widow looked at Freddy with some confusion. Suddenly a scream of pure terror came from the room and Headcrack still bent over in a robe came out of the room hobbling. He looked like he had a fishing pole stuck out of his robe. Mao calmly walked out holding a very long sharp needle. "Stop being such a baby. This won't hurt." Mao stated in his quiet way.
Headcrack tried to back away, hiding his problem from Widow and Freddy but was totally unsuccessful. It was pretty obvious. "NO WAY! You keep those needles away from me!" Headcrack screamed at Mao his skin all red and hairless from the previous treatment. Mao shrugged.
"Very well. If you want to remain like that for the next twelve hours it's your choice. He went and gathered up his items and headed for his room.
Freddy snickered at the orc. Widow looked down at Headcrack who was trying to crouch in his robe. "Is that a pole in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?" Widow asked with a slight smile. Freddy laughed.
Headcrack's face turned redder than his skin. Pelch cleaned up and in a new suit came out of his room and dumped the dirty items into the washer. Mao followed him as usual. Pelch looked at Headcrack's dilemma and turned to Mao and spoke angrily but with his back turned to the cameras and the rest of the group he winked. "Didn't you finish the treatment, you moron?" Mao shrugged his face showing nothing. "I tried but he didn't want me too. I guess he likes it this way. What do we do now?"
Pelch looked at Headcrack with concern on his face as he turned. "You should have let Mao finish. Still it looks like you're going to be out for about the next twelve hours." Pelch shrugged, "You're the boss though but this could cause us some trouble in our plans. Snake-Boy. You better go tell the Control that our team leader seems to have contracted some type of virus and that Mao was not able to complete the medical procedure. Our leader will be incapacitated for twelve hours and she needs to make a decision as to who will take over or even if we should proceed with the plan now."
Freddy smirking went to find the Control. Widow smiled an evil smile. "I guess I could practice my dancing while Freddy's gone to check in. Headcrack tottered toward his room.

Gut ache and a twelve hour canoe.. something diddnt agree with him - some kinda viral attack - could be a different metabolism giving rise to unexpected side effects which is why we havnt contracted it - inconvenienced rather than incapacitated though.
Pelch and Mao, you two are the next in line if Me an Widow are continuing with this now - an youll need to get that suit cleaned should be done an pressed in an hour. I'll go and inform Control that the upstanding Headcrack is laid low
It would be good to get a thorough preliminary scan done at the laywer's office so we dont have to go back - I want to take a call while I am there so I can be the busy self-made-man type to give me the opportunity to let Widow seduce him into letting me walk around his office replete with umbarella detection
Far as we're concerned we can up and off soonest
Bear in mind folks that there are other teams still out there who dont like us, and with the recent alliance we have undoubtedly picked up a few more grudges.
Widow collected the heavy Infiltrators checking them on the Lair magscan - null-detect - sweet! then secured them in the briefcase - the other pistols were really just for show - she could do far more damage with a fist than with the Tiffany but it looked the part... and thats what they were there for
Control 'yessed' Pelch and Mao to take over - Widow and Freddy arm in arm took the elevator to the parking lot to meet Fangs. A swift once-over of the Americar to familiarise themselves with the specials along with the nod to the guys in the tail van
Freddy made sure his chips and picks were encased then put his focii into the secure compartment in the dashboard
He considered the chameleon effect - and thought about aplying it to an active spell - food for thought as that would be much more versatile and something that really was out of the ordinary - just see how well it worked today - take it step by step..
Next step they would be colecting intel on the way up to the laywers office

As a last helpful thought Freddy visited Headcrack - the guy was an old enemy but the whole place needed knocking ihto order.. Control had instigated Headcrack so that was th way it was going..
You had to look further than th immediate job - If the fem in charge said you could not visit the kids then there was a reason for that... Freddy accepted this and swallowed more gall as he accepted Headcrack as his immediate superior - there were reasons for this - productivity and getting the job done
Freddy had collected a huge amount of intel for the people he had been working for - but had never been bolted down into single tasks like now.. jeeze it was like some kind of induction or a smartarse corp questionnaire - or a test where he was put into a totally diffferent environment -
Fraaaag!
he knew that he could get back to the lodge and access some of the power/the insight he had gathered and turn that into real physical intervention..
problem was that control did not want the operatives to get out of arms length indicating that firearms length would suffice
meant that he could not interract with his own totem based back at Commute on the industrial site in order to learn new ways of getting into connect with Snake...
Freddy felt very cut off and isolated
To make the best of what he percieved as a poor situation he continued to practice the unfase magig ..
A thought ocurrred as to how to accesss the security systems - put a few mundanes through just to see what their security systems were....
Freddy asked for a dry run of a pair of clean operatives to go through the security system prior to Freddy an Widow guessing what it would be.... this should check out what elec checks they do have - making sure that the gear they couild carry in would not be detected...
Another message through to Control regarding a need to exit the Tomato for research humanitarian and just a plain few freedoms would be useful..
Freddy has been uner 'martial law' for over three weeks now and is being refused access to the outside world - if this goes on for much longer he will regard himself as a prisoner - this laywer scam will be the last incident that he involves himself with voluntarily..
Headcrack just needs a swift mage cure - the guy has been poisoned - Snake knows so much about the why's and wherefores of physical imbalance that Headcrack - after a few minutes of difficulty and embarassment the guy ought to be able to continue with his overseeing of th operation...
Freddy looked around the Tomato installation.. The runners there were still afraid of coming out of the shadows and therefore being able to function successfully.. either they had a current SIN or not - either way t hey would all be visible on any surveillance DB and go back to being invisible...
someone should be on their case ensuring each would or should be in the place they were aswsigned to.
Headcrack was well versed with this but the guy was a field operative so could make adjustments if needed in the field - hands on - inmmediate adjustments
He had seen how Headcrack had operated against them earlier - the guy was very good which is why Control took him on as the immediate control - Freddy thought for a short while why he had not been concidered - hey- Headcrack did what needed to be done while the rest of the crew were still anchored in the shadows
The shadows had a lot to answer for.. the corp structure became a yoke and had more to answer for.. Fredy sighed - he ought to get some time off soon
He hated the hoops he was jumping through currently - everything he had to do was outside of his own calling.. Widow too, though she seemed to be able to twist those muscles in a different direction...
He knew they were like being fish put into different waters to see how well they would survive - because they would survive and win through or die in the attempt.. but how far would Control push the envelope?

"Not just tail. Attorneys also keep records. They don't like to keep their files on the matrix. I suspect that hidden in his office or home or perhaps somewhere close by are probably code books and records that might give us more of a clue to what is happening and who hired him and you. A smart guy with a flair for lifting things might be able to get copies of those records if they were carelessly left laying around somewhere. Ever since Smythe took over the Z Street operation and put in the new CONTROL things have been tighter over their and we don't want to run anything we know through them. Now if you were to come by those records in some unforseen but lucky manner you could receive a very handsome reward from your employer in addition to your regular check. If you get caught though doing anything illegal, you are on your own. As a lawyer I will not condone any criminal actions you perform.
....Was what Pelch had reported from his Skagit employers.. they wanted to know who was hiring to infiltrate Skagit. As Skagit was Krass enterprise then politics and a lot of money had to be involved.. power.
It was down to the two of them to make the meet at the laywers.. Freddy an Widow. They intended a recon first then once they knew something of the procedures they could move in later with some better equipment.
Once they had located the document hidey-hole they would be able to crack it carfully, copy the goods and put it all back in place - leaving them with the details of Pelch's contract. Deliver this to Pelch's Skagit superiors and he ought to advance further - they hoped. Ultimately the trail would get followed and the threat to Skagit and Kreass neutralised. power politics.
Freddy did the talking on the way in - most suits regarded metahumans as something distrustful - and this included security personell upwards... the recent use of plas enhancements around the eyes and cheekbones moved Freddy's face recognition spots enough to match with the new identity generated in his SIN. Widow being a non-citizen had little need to disguise as her records would be difficult enough to follow up
Yes Mr Frasier Nyles - I have an appointment with the Attorney at law two o'clock prompt. Up in the elevator floor twenty three - that would make entering difficult and also easier - through the windows from the outside. Freddy gently harmonised on the journey up washing out the awakened signs in his aura. Now under astral gaze he was ordinary. Incapable of spellcasting and influencing important people like the Attorney... he felt a little naked without the focii he usually carried
If you would please step this way sir - a standard security procedure - do you have any metallics about your person? Could you please take a seat and I shall tell him you are here.. They sat on plastic chairs- tres swish design - but plastic.. Freddy put the briefcase down at his side so the wall scanners could get a clean pic of it. they were being magscanned and probably chemsniffed too. Yes - cyberimplants - head and bodyware dear.. and personal armaments - do you wish me to leave the tasar, No? lovely..
the receptionist busied herself then exited through the mirror fronted internal door - now she was completing an astral scan or collecting the scanner data - whichever it had been she wans back quickly - announcing the boss-man was available. Two sets of checks - they had been allowed through still carrying the briefcase containing the ceramic pistols in their plas seals, along with the tasar and electro-umberella Fangs had supplied. If someone wanted to kill the guy then a sniper shot would be easier than getting close to punch the guy's lights out he supposed so the toys were let through.
They entered the plush office - big realwood desk - portrait and paintings hanging on the walls - wide windows frosting out the city scene - not many places had anything worth calling a view nowadays.. leatherette armchairs as some clients would object to real skins..
Then down to business - the plan was to scan the guy while Widow flounced and flexed in front of him - Freddy would take a couple of calls and stalk the room looking for wiring and using the small magdetector in the umberella to sweep for devices. He should be able to astrally scan his aura for the possibility of headware retention of the documents..
well they had an hour of his time - God knows what it was costing but for the two of them to legally adopt then a top Attorney would be needed - now all it needed was for their cover story to be swallowed and the realisation that the legal fees could run and run...

You are both registered citizens - then you are both gainfully employed?
I have my own businesses and pay a lot of tax and we do so want to help with the humanitarian problem in Calistate.. dont we darling..
Freddy and Widow sat in front of the desk - he depressed the umberella handle activating the short-range magscanner at the tip - drawing the brolly across his lap was enough to scan one side of the desk then swinging across to Widow concluded the scan on the other side.. the details would be analysed later. If there was a bug detector in action currently then it would pick up the signal - but a surge could indicate any kind of transmission - his fone fit the bill nicely..
There would be very little publicity for us but we are sure the city would benefit from the trid shots of rescue of innocents from the warzone
I have already created a tridshoot for the rescue - we get a close in of the children then a long panshot of the copter with a suggestion of Japtroopers closing in - oldstyle noosreel footage
Freddy stood and gestured around the wall painting the copter rising gracefully across the Attorney's chimney brest .. Oh.. excuse me.. then listening to his headfone.. quietly pacing and nodding - a smile across to his lovely.. curvaceous.. tightly packed.. She half-turned from the Attorney at law then pitched her head back to him giving a weak smile then lazily turned back to her pacing husband..
He can be so infuriating at times - so innatentive - I do apologise..
Erm no need, the client is always right..
the hour progressed with three fone interruptions between discussing the possibilities of adoption for unmarried couples, outlining the city policy on the Cali-Japanese war, and the current status of Calicitizens - each of which would require further discussion by a specialist (read 'junior') The hour drifted delightfully with her twisting and turning, adjustments and an occasional flash of an animal smile.
He mentally gave them four months together - by that time the pacing fool would be either dead or broke.
If there is anything that you feel you need to contact me with please do not hesitate.. he gave her hand a slight squeeze and a limp wipe to him.
Their cred checks out sir - A3 bracket property and career - she has less - a lot less but as he is the client... Do you want the security scans ? Acceptable perameters for scanner pickup from his fone - weaponry detects - cyber detects - blank magic - clean and affluent Sir
the juniors could siphon off a comfortable wedge for their specialist legalise - and when it came to the inevitable splitup he could happily represent her. He brushed down his suitfront then quickly checked the next three hours of clients... it was nice to have these distractions once in a while - it put a certain sparkle into a laywer's life...
Freddy an Widow relaxed in the Americar - magscan data and an immediate report of the aura were downloaded. They drove out uptown and entered the cityblok where he was supposed to live. The laywer's department could and should easily follow the car on a traffscan. tie up the loose ends dont just dissappear. That's what control wanted - results and training.
Creating the illusion getting it right. follow the procedure.
Last time they had been out - Widow had been trailed then hit by Headcrack. There were still hostiles out there. Be safe. They remained until their backup van signalled for them to join. change of clothes brief disguise to fool the cams then into the street crowds to the closeby collect point. Fangs' toys could kick in and drive the car back on auto in a couple of hours....
