The Control stopped Freddy for a moment. "You will get a time and a location to meet with Headcrack. That is all you will get. It will be up to you to decide if you are going to make the approach immediately or at a later date. It will be up to you how you make the approach. It will be up to you if you feel it necessary to kill him. I will give you a choice of partner from anyone available on the field teams when you decide to make said approach. I will want to see your plan of action before you put it into affect. You may go." She looked at Widow after having dismissed Freddy.
Freddy shrugged his shoulders and went towards his room to think. It was pretty obvious to him that this woman was testing him by giving him a chance to make decisions. He was sure if his plan of action was not satisfactory to her, she would let him know. First he had to decide, should he kill Headcrack and did he want Widow with him as a partner? Especially given her recent mood swings and erratic behavior. It was pretty certain that if he did well the Control might be considering him to head the field teams. Did he want that?
She looked at Widow with a long blank stare. "So you are saying that everything that happened was just JJ, Pelch, Headcrack, angry elves, and militant trolls out to wreck everything? Nowhere in any of that have you said that as the leader of the teams, that you were responsible for any of it. I'll remind you of what Freddy said in his report, "Remarks about the leadership are correct. Leadership has been ineffective due to a number of factors."
I tend to agree with his view on this. A couple of those factors quoted were; Inexperience in leading and of being led and personal grudges influencing professional choices. After listening to you I can see that this is plainly the truth. You may recall that I also talked to Mr. Smythe. It seems you really impressed him with your leadership skills when you damaged his desk and stole his cigars. His response to that bit of arrogance and attitude means you used up enough miracles in your life. I would have probably killed you on the spot."
"JJ was also quite insistant that you did absolutely nothing to attempt any type of reasonable working relationship even though she allowed you considerable latitude. Based on the contract I saw and the reports of your team running wild I suspect that view is not far from the truth. Then we have the Gobwit report that states you are prone to fits of temper, physical violence and bullying against members of the team, and that you appear to have formed a sexual liason with others. He neglects to mention which others. Even your own second in command, the one you would supposedly deem most loyal, has confirmed these statements and you say it's not your fault?"
"You are wrong. It is your fault and it is one of the things I was brought in to fix. You can either accept the responsibility for your actions or you can sit there angry at the world. I don't care. If you get to be too big of a problem I'll have you ground into sausage and I will personally send you back to those trolls gift wrapped with my compliments and a hearty Bon Appetit. As troll drek you will probably have had your finest moment because those that can't adapt, change or think in this job deserve it. LOSE the ATTITUDE, FAST. It can get you killed if not by our enemies then by your allies, all in the name of self defense."
"You see I don't care if you like me or hate me. I'm here to do a job. If you get in the way of that job with your attitude, I'll erase your hoop. JJ is not the problem. She will not interefere any more since I had my conversation with her. Mr. Smythe is my boss and I am yours. You are currently boss of nothing until you prove to me you can handle the job. Now I suggest you go locate Freddy and start planing what you will do about Headcrack when I set up the contact with him." She picked up her Astra and put it away and then rose and went back into the Security Center leaving Widow with her thoughts.
