Two days later found HeadCrack in the Califree state. He'd been busy doing legwork and had tracked a helo that had previously been owned by one Yvonne Watters, aka Bobby Andrews to a small militant operation that ran patrols along the northern boarder. That they also did a small bit of smuggling on the side, further tied 'Wheels' to them as he was known to have smuggling experience and perhaps contacts. The group were primarily NAN members and as such HeadCrack hadn't approached them yet. In fact he wasn't sure that he would approach them.
Wheels had been smart. He'd ditched the bird to an organization that would be below the radar. It was the smugglers/patrollers who'd made a small mistake. They'd still had to register the aircraft with local authorities lest they be shot down by every military aircraft and Anti-Air unit within a thousand miles. That was how HeadCrack had tracked the bird.
Running the matrix, HeadCrack had narrowed the window that Wheels had been in the CaliFree state to a couple of days. The period from when BB had been been returned to the Lair after the aborted flight out to the oil platform in pursuit of Dom's brother Tony and his captive Pelch, to the time that the Smugglers had registered the Helo. He'd subtracted flight times from Seattle down, and gotten a 76 hour period of time. He had programs running to photo match Wheels' persona through the local Gridlock system and he was planning a matrix run on the local public transit systems tonight. He also had runs scheduled for local taxi services and private car rental agencies. It was going to take some time and some leg work, but he'd find him.
On other fronts, HeadCrack hadn't yet heard from his man Eagle, though it'd only been a couple days since he'd brought the runner on board. I'd take that long to make the flight and wade through the red tape in Japan, even with the top notch ID and papers that Dom and J.J.'s people had procured for him.
HeadCrack had gotten a call from one of L'il Paulie's people though. Mao and Pelch along with Freddy had returned to the Lair. Though that didn't necessarily make sense, HeadCrack was too busy here, to follow up on that. Mao and Pelch couldn't possibly have finished their business out in Yakima. There was no word in the papers or on the newsnets of the eco-terrorists moving on or any word of them doing anything drastic, other than their status quo. In fact, the scheduled protests they were planning to launch seemed to be still on line. HeadCrack made a mental note to possibly downgrade Pelch and Mao's effectiveness, but otherwise told the operative to maintain the low level survielance and keep him informed.
HeadCrack continued to observe the small airfield from which the Border runners were operating. He was currently stationed about half a kilometer away from their field observing through some high powered Binoculars. The tree he was in was not the most comfortable, but he was trying to make do. The Land Rover 2040 he'd rented was parked below, with a few creature comforts in it, but he couldn't risk being seen just yet...He climbed down once more and had a cup of soy-cafe from a thermos in the truck.
