I've watched both movies and some episodes from the serie, I must say that's the closest thing I ever saw from Shadowrun (tech-wise), cyber enhancements, rigging, computer usage a la matrix, subvocal comm, pretty nice. Even though the characters are part of some police unit, there's a few ideas here and there to maybe make something out of it.

Can't say I've seen it, but I did own the Police's Ghost in the Machine on cassette way back when...

Can't say I've seen it, but I did own the Police's Ghost in the Machine on cassette way back when... hehe..not quite the same thing, but as pleasurable... it's Anime (Japanese cartoon) so if you're not into those things you may not like it, but it's pretty well-made and easely obtainable on the intraweb (read: Internet)in case you're intersted

I like animee -problem with a lot of it is it goes way way over the top - suddenly dropping the charachters in a battle to save the earth instead of just a gang brawl.
I suppose the Japanese market likes the idea of promorion... Young recruit unexpectedly becomes specialist mech pilot, Captain yoshi of the armoured corps unleashes his long-hidden demonic powers etc Its a bit like winning the lottery (if you play) sudden catapult from obscurity into stardom..
Saying that I recently bought the kids 'Spirited Away' v impressive.
- Newest Spierman series (couple of years old now) used lots of plausible equipment...
A bigie here in the UK is the 2000AD comic featuring Judge Dredd see the film with Sly -loads of good ideas for a Mega-City environment.. This is one reason why I like the small-time runner style scenario because the idea of the Judges/cops/ Corp troops are a permanent fixture, wheras the underworld I see as more liquid - otherwise they attract the notice of the big boys (with even bigger toys)

Glad to see someone else thought this was a good idea

rather than the teeming billions in the megacities the population pressure shouldnt be so intense but there are a lot of good ideas to use. Life is cheap because Biotech will keep people alive if they can aford it- though it could cost an arm and a leg...
Bladerunner arcologies 20th century oldtown buildings alongside new 2050s townbloc walkways and overzooms allowing people to move around pretty quick. lots of rundown derelict blocks -
the ghost in the shell series is excellent too - from the troubleshooter point of view - though that is what runners do - kind of!

hrm... ok braddoc, now you got me going on something. more of an anti runner strategy.. such as the players be some special unit of lonestar or even knight errant.. against some mastermind.

I use a lot of ideas fron anime - WItch Hunter Robin is good - who's side are you on? Ghost in the shell style would be great for SR4 with the massive otaku influence as Shade said also lots of drones Personally I avoid vehicles
